Sargeist / Horned Almighty split cd

Is it good?

I understand there's gonna be a new Sargeist full-length this year, I can't wait, Satanic Black Devotion is really good.

Moribund just released Tyranny Returns demo from Sargeist as a cd. And the upcoming Sargeist album wil be called Dicipline of Heinious Path, but you propably already kew that? I think this split is nice, but not the best stuff by them. Horned Almighty is rather mediocre, didnt really impress me.

err....sorry Jotun. You propably wanted to answer yourself on this....

No problem :)

Well it's a bit generic, but I liked it... Horned Almighty are pretty damn derivative, yes, but they kick ass.

The first time I played this one I was quite surprised; amazing how Nacthmystium changed from Demise to Eulogy IV.

By the way Gast, did you get the 5 track CD or the LP with the Ildjarn and VON covers.... ?

I just bought "The Greater Of Two Evils" off Amazon.com a few days ago. It hasn't come in yet, but I know it has some of my favorite songs from the Belladonna error except for Got The Time and H8 Red (the omission of Got The Time may not be such a bad thing, actually, since I prefer the original PoT version over the live version with John Bush) and I happen to be a big fan of Bush-era Anthrax, so I know it'll probably be good.

Woods of Ypres have a demo called Against the Seasons which is good, thought (IMHO) not as good as Pursuit... Its much colder, winter black metal, while Pursuit.. is summer black metal. (If there is such a thing, heh).

I like Blot, but its the only Einherjer album I have. Are any of the others as good or better?

I preffer their previous album/demo Against the Seasons, which is more Black Metal than Pursuit...; I guess it's a matter of taste because both are really good.

For some reason A Meeting Place and Time is the only song on Against the Seasons that I can really get into.. the rest just passes me by without grabbing my attention. I'm pretty sure I like Pursuit.. more because of the non-bm sounds that have been incorporated (such as Agalloch).

Speaking of black metal that just passes me by.. I got my hands on Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice a few days ago and I just don't understand why both you and Aaron listed it as the number 1 release of 2004. Its not BAD by any means but I am having trouble finding anything exceptional about it.

Which leads to my question, do you think there are any particular "stepping stone" black metal albums that are especially important to "get" (not just own, I mean, really get into), before someone can appreciate an album like Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice? I am obviously missing something but I do not know the remedy!

Aurora Borealis and Dragons of the North.

Aurora is their most mystic and dark release (and, of course, it's their first demo  ).

DotN is a more heavy and speedy album and not so atmospheric as AB (english lyrics, power/thrash vocals instead of raucous growling...)

You can't easily say which one's better, because:
1) AB is a demo with only 4 tracks while Dragons is a full-length;
2) Comparing them is like comparing two photos: a gloomy black and white one and a light coloured one.

It depends on the listener (I like AB a lot more, considering it's a godly opus while Dragons is a one "for mortals"). So the best solution is to buy them both.

Godflesh - Selfless/Merciless
Marduk - Fuck Me Jesus EP
Craft - Terror Propaganda (Second Black Metal Attack)

Any other Godflesh fans around here? I'd like to know if anyone else would support my notion to flesh out our missing reviews of them.

Streetcleaner would have to be a classic, of course.
