...Blu-ray's not a gimmick. It's probably going to be the next step after DVD.

But anyways, yeah. Wii's game quality is just too inconsistent for it to be anything more than a gimmick to me. There are a couple solid games that are worth playing for more than five minutes (Zelda, Super Mario Galaxy) but besides those it's pretty much shite. 360 & PS3>Wii

and...

Mac>Windows. I don't even have a Mac and I'm willing to admit that.

I call your bluff (as it would be called if I say, said: "The X Box 360 has a couple solid games (Bioshock and Halo 3) but besides that its pretty shite).. Here we go:

Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime III: Corruption
Super Paper Mario
Zack and Wiki: The Quest For Barbaros' Treasure (an excellent but largely ignored game, that pits an original game presentation with some really fucking hard environmental puzzles)
No More Heroes (just played a lot of this.. fun swordplay, lots of blood, woot)
Trauma Center series (not for me, but many people do love these games)
Excite Truck
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (some nice RPG action)
Battalion Wars II (an extremely fun strategy game)
Medal of Honour 2: Heroes (an excellent FPS that has the best console FPS controls I've ever played, great and challenging single player, and most importantly, 32 player online fun)
SSX Blur (an excellent snowboarding game- probably the best I've played since 1080 back on the 64)
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (a good if unremarkable rail shooter with good controls)

Then there's all the mini game/party oriented games- some of which, like Rayman Raving Rabbits, Wii Sports, and Mario Strikers Charged are actually quite fun. Then there's third party games that, if lacking in the same graphics as the 360 and PS3, are made more fun by the Wii mote. There's Manhunt 2, Resident Evil 4 (the definitive version to buy if you don't have it yet), Guitar Hero III, the Madden games, Scarface: The World is Yours, the Godfather...

Then there's the upcoming Smash Bros. game (one month to go), which is pretty much going to be the funnest multiplayer game of all time. And a new Mario Kart, with 12 person online multiplayer. And a new Tales of Symphonia RPG. And Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. And... A Sonic RPG? And Red Steel 2, which will hopefully actually be good. And shitloads more. And the Virtual Console. And complete Gamecube backwards compatibality, something most versions of the PS3 can't do at all.

Basically, this nerdy rant ends to say that there are shitloads of great games for the Wii- and that some of them are even third party. It doesn't have the library of the 360, but I think that its equal to, if not better than, the PS3's, which also does have a good library. Furthermore, the Wii remote is fun, and offers a different gameplay experience than on other consoles- when used right, its not just a gimmick. There's no denying that Nintendo relies a lot on its star franchises- and they have every right to, because they are nearly always excellent. But there's a lot more to the Wii than Mario, Zelda and Metroid. Pick up some of the games mentioned above that look interesting to you. Try them. You might have fun.

Here are games from your list that I would agree with...

Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime III: Corruption
No More Heroes

And Metroid Prime III: Corruption is iffy because I haven't actually heard anything about it...I just like the Metroid series. Granted, I haven't played most of those games, but I'm pretty informed on the gaming community and know generally which games are good and which games aren't. Are there good games for the Wii that are worth playing for more than an hour? Yeah...but in my opinion, not very many at all. I admit that at the moment, there are probably more good exclusives for the Wii than PS3. But, you have to factor in games that are on PS3 and 360 so right now I would say that PS3 is still better than Wii.

And, to even suggest that there are good third party games on the Wii is blasphemy.

Dude, you haven't played the games? Then you have no part in this argument. Whether Metroid Prime 3 is good is iffy because you haven't heard anything about it? Play it! Enjoy it! Hell, check out reviews and actually get informed- but you have no more right to say that the Wii lineup sucks if you're relying on hearsay and the opinions of some random people than I do to say that Bioshock sucks because my uncle Bob says so (incidentally, Metroid Prime 3 is one of the best games I have ever played). Or hell, I could go onto any X Box forum and read 20 pages worth of PS3 bashing- does that give me the right to say that the PS3 sucks? Whether you prefer the PS3 or not, either ways being perfectly fine at least have the decency to try the games.

Once again, pretty bullshitty. Play the bloody system. No More Heroes. Resident Evil games. Medal of Honour Heroes 2. Scarface, Guitar Hero III, Zack and Wiki. SSX Blur. Battalion Wars. The Godfather. Madden. There's no question that a lot of early Wii third party games were bad and made just to get a quick buck- but there are a lot of good, and some of the best stuff on the system is of third party make. Furthermore, third party developers are getting the hang of making Wii games and are realizing that shit games get bad reviews and don't sell= Better quality. Plus Nintendo is going to be getting more games from third party companies- Call of Duty 5, The Force Unleashed, Assassin's Creed, Brother in Arms, etc...

It seems a lot of people all over the video game world essentially just state their expectations and then make the evidence fit from there. Sony is a greedy corporation which sucks, so the PS3 sucks. Nintendo is the kiddy company that doesn't have third party support, so the Wii sucks and doesn't have third party support. Don't form opinions on things before you try them. Go, rent games. Play the ones I mentioned above. You may not like some of them. Whatever. But I can't believe I'm having a discussion with you about this when you haven't even played most of the games you're deriding or (more rarely) praising.

Blu-Ray is and will win the format war.

Sorry dude, until you've actually played the games you criticize by saying that good third party games on the wii is blasphemy, then I reserve the right to treat your opinion as irrelevant, heh. I mean, would you go into a review thread and bash an album before hearing it?

P.S. Sorry Zad, but MP3 players are boring, whereas video game nerdiness is the awesome.

Well, my experience with third party games on the Wii has not been great (a couple that come to mind are Need for Speed and the Rockstar Ping Pong game), because while they are mildly fun for a little bit, they do not provide much lasting entertainment...which is what I feel is the main problem with most of the Wii's games. And also, you're right in saying that I shouldn't criticize games I haven't played, but it's generally accepted that the Wii's third party support is pretty much terrible.
