Also I think the Wii gimmick was a way better idea than Sony's blu-ray gimmick
...Blu-ray's not a gimmick. It's probably going to be the next step after DVD.
There are a couple solid games that are worth playing for more than five minutes (Zelda, Super Mario Galaxy) but besides those it's pretty much shite. 360 & PS3>Wii
I call your bluff (as it would be called if I say, said: "The X Box 360 has a couple solid games (Bioshock and Halo 3) but besides that its pretty shite).. Here we go:
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime III: Corruption
Super Paper Mario
Zack and Wiki: The Quest For Barbaros' Treasure (an excellent but largely ignored game, that pits an original game presentation with some really fucking hard environmental puzzles)
No More Heroes (just played a lot of this.. fun swordplay, lots of blood, woot)
Trauma Center series (not for me, but many people do love these games)
Excite Truck
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (some nice RPG action)
Battalion Wars II (an extremely fun strategy game)
Medal of Honour 2: Heroes (an excellent FPS that has the best console FPS controls I've ever played, great and challenging single player, and most importantly, 32 player online fun)
SSX Blur (an excellent snowboarding game- probably the best I've played since 1080 back on the 64)
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (a good if unremarkable rail shooter with good controls)
Then there's all the mini game/party oriented games- some of which, like Rayman Raving Rabbits, Wii Sports, and Mario Strikers Charged are actually quite fun. Then there's third party games that, if lacking in the same graphics as the 360 and PS3, are made more fun by the Wii mote. There's Manhunt 2, Resident Evil 4 (the definitive version to buy if you don't have it yet), Guitar Hero III, the Madden games, Scarface: The World is Yours, the Godfather...
Then there's the upcoming Smash Bros. game (one month to go), which is pretty much going to be the funnest multiplayer game of all time. And a new Mario Kart, with 12 person online multiplayer. And a new Tales of Symphonia RPG. And Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. And... A Sonic RPG? And Red Steel 2, which will hopefully actually be good. And shitloads more. And the Virtual Console. And complete Gamecube backwards compatibality, something most versions of the PS3 can't do at all.
Basically, this nerdy rant ends to say that there are shitloads of great games for the Wii- and that some of them are even third party. It doesn't have the library of the 360, but I think that its equal to, if not better than, the PS3's, which also does have a good library. Furthermore, the Wii remote is fun, and offers a different gameplay experience than on other consoles- when used right, its not just a gimmick. There's no denying that Nintendo relies a lot on its star franchises- and they have every right to, because they are nearly always excellent. But there's a lot more to the Wii than Mario, Zelda and Metroid. Pick up some of the games mentioned above that look interesting to you. Try them. You might have fun.
