It's Official: OPETH Sign With ROADRUNNER RECORDS

As BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on April 18, OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt has now officially confirmed to MTV.com that the band have finalized a deal with New York's Roadrunner Records, bolstering an imposing roster that already includes KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SLIPKNOT, OBITUARY and CRADLE OF FILTH.

CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho recently gave an exclusive interview to the COB fan site Scythes-Of-Bodom.com. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

Guitarist DANIEL MONGRAIN Quits CRYPTOPSY

Guitarist Daniel Mongrain has officially left CRYPTOPSY due to "professional" reasons and to focus full-time on MARTYR, according to a posting on MARTYR's web site.
Mongrain originally joined CRYPTOPSY in late 2004 following the departure of Jon Levasseur. MARTYR are currently in pre-production for their third album, which they expect to record this summer. The follow-up to 2000's "Warp Zone" will be issued through Galy Records before the end of the year.

GAMMA RAY Complete Work On 'Majestic'

German power metallers GAMMA RAY have completed work on their new album, "Majestic", at Hansen Studios in Hamburg, Germany. Mastering duties were handled at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finnland by Mikko Karmila and Kai Hansen. The follow-up to 2001's "No World Order"
includes 11 tracks which represent "all of the characteristic strengths
of the band's musical career to date," the group write on their web
site. A late September release is expected.

ARCH ENEMY Guitarist: New Album Sounds 'Huge'

ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"I am writing this studio update in Derbyshire, U.K …breathing in the fresh country air and looking at cows and sheep in the fields! Yes, we have moved to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing of the 'Doomsday Machine' album. "It's an amazing, almost euphoric feeling to have finally completed the recording phase of the new ARCH ENEMY album… We were starting to get serious cabin fever at Slaughterhouse studio (Halmstad, Sweden)…! New SUNN O))) album entitled "Black 1" being recorded now. The album will feature vocals and guitars by Malefic (XASTHUR) among others. Interesting to mention that vocals for one song will be recorded by Malefic from inside a casket. You can read the recording diary here.

DISSECTION Vs. DAVE MUSTAINE

Reactivated Swedish death metallers DISSECTION have officially cancelled their previously announced appearance at the Metalist Festival in Israel. A statement on the matter from DISSECTION mainman Jon Nödtveidt reads as follows: "I unfortunately have to inform you about the fact that DISSECTION have been cancelled from the Metalist Festival in Israel (a gig which was 100 percent confirmed), obviously as a result of Mr. Dave Mustaine of MEGADETH (who are headlining the festival) not wanting to play with Satanic bands (according to himself because of his new-found Christian beliefs)! I'm also informed that we are supposed to share the bill with MEGADETH at Fury Fest (France) late ... |

Mike DiMeo has NOT left Riot

5/10/05 - NYC - An unauthorized press release was issued recently concerning Mike DiMeo officially leaving Riot. This information is false. In actuality, Mike DiMeo is still an active member of Riot, and will be featured on their soon to be released CD. Although Mike DiMeo is singing for hard rockers The Lizards, who are currently on tour in Europe supporting UFO, he will continue to work with Riot.

David Wayne Dies (UPDATED & CORRECTED)

As reported Tuesday in the HardRadio HardBoard BBS, original METAL CHURCH frontman DAVID WAYNE was found dead by the door at his house in Seattle. The following statement has been issued via Wayne's official website: "On behalf of DAVID WAYNE'S METAL CHURCH, we would like to express our deepest sorrow in the passing of our metal brother, David Wayne. This is not only a loss for us as a band and his family, but also millions of metalheads throughout the world. David died due to complications from injuries he sustained in a head-on automobile accident several months ago.
