First of all, many thanks for taking the time to do the interview! I really enjoyed Inactive Theocracy - did you decide to move away from the sound of Chamber Of Divine Elaboration deliberately? And do you prefer this style?
Several links can be made between "C.o.d.e" and "Inactive Theocracy”, there is still this atmosphere very dark and industrial, the difference is that “C.o.d.e" was a slow and crawl album, while "I.T" is much more violent and complex. The voices has also evolved, clear voices are more present, there is much singing, too.
We did not want make another "code" but create an album more violent, searched and tortured, maybe more "metal" too.
We have described a violent face of the band and we’ll continue to move in this way.
How would you describe the band and its music to a newcomer?
I would ask him what he felt during the first listen.
It is difficult to describe Reverence, I think we give a new version of black metal, a very personal style of this genre, dissonant and complex, very dark and introspective. Reverence is ultimately our own version of black metal music.
There's a distinct atmospheric horror element to Reverence's sound. Do you recommend combining listening to the music with any other activity - reading a Lovecraft story, for example?
I do not read Lovecraft. I am more interested in the atmospheres of abandoned cities and the occult. Silent Hill will summarize better my research.
The theme of the album is the life after death, what is the other side, how we live it and what we can feel in this new form.
What are your influences, musical and otherwise, for the music you create?
It’s difficult to describe that, I can say in first that it’s my life, my way of life, also the universe of Silent Hill for the atmosphere, colors, feelings, the music… I’m not a hard gamer but everything in this world fascinates me, it’s very special.
French Black Metal has come a long way since the days of LLN. Do you think France makes the best Black Metal in the world?
French bands are evolved in recent years and I truly believe that there really good bands in France today, many of them seek changes to customize their work and I support this approach . The best bands in the world? it is a matter of preference and research.
How do you see your music evolving in the future? Will the Reverence of 2019 be very different from the Reverence of today?
It is obvious that the music of Reverence will be different in the future, we want to push as far as possible our vision of music and make it evolve, to unveil to each new album new feelings, while maintaining the gains that make of Reverence an unique band.
Are you a political band at all, or are such concerns beneath you?
We are not a political group. Personally, I don’t feel me concerned about that. I have maybe wrong, but my way of life is out there. I may be too individualist… I don’t know…
What are your favourite five albums, metal or not, of the moment?
MZ 412 – Infernal affairs, MUSE – Origin of Symmetry, BLUT AUS NORD – Mort, ANOREXIA NERVOSA – Drudenhaus, ALICE IN CHAINS – Unplugged.
What band, past or present, would you most like to open for and why?
Maybe Emperor, we like so much this band, Shining would be cool too.
You have the power to erase one human being from history. Who and why?
I don’t know, really… Whatever the answer, delete an important person from history calls into question our world today, we would have another way of seeing the world, another way of thinking, I do not know if I would take the risk of being a another person for to have to erase another person, but it’s a good question.
Do you have a favourite joke you could tell us?
I don’t have a favourite joke but I like the humor, I think that humor is a good distraction and also a formidable weapon. I think it's also a good way to overcome some problems.
Many thanks again! Any final words?
Thanks for your interest.
