Currently living in Northern Virginia, working on my doctorate, but I originally hail from the Cincinnati area.
In terms of music,
  • My favorite genres are grindcore and black metal, but I also quite the taste for more traditional sounds like NWOBHM, doom metal, death metal, etc. I honestly listen to most genres besides power metal and metalcore. Over the years, I have developed an aesthetic taste for a certain style and so I think my tastes in, for instance, doom metal easily gel with my tastes in grindcore, whether that be a similar style of riffing or reliance on sludge influences. Saying you listen to a dash of everything is usually a bullshit answer, but in terms of genres, I listen to them all, but very specific bands from each one that reflect my tastes.
  • Favourite bands in a simplistic list format: Cattle Decapitation, Pig Destroyer, Dillinger Escape Plan, Slough Feg, Baroness, Behemoth, High on Fire, The Berzerker, Converge, Megadeth, Devin Townsend and co., Danzig, Deathspell Omega, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Judas Priest, Panopticon
  • If I had to choose a single all-time favorite album it would have to be Pig Destroyer's Terrifyer, or maybe Judas Priest's Stained Class, but sometimes it is Slough Feg's Atavism.
Besides music, I spend my time
  • Job: Currently, I am a research assistant in the program that I completing my doctorate in. This generally involves doing bitchwork for professors, but it isn't labor intensive at all and it pays the bills. Some days I wake up missing going to work at the ol' retail job working at grocery stores or late nights bartending, and then I remember that when I wake up all I have to ever do is read a book. And that's all I have to do that day and I smile.
  • Hobbies: "Time and time again, when questioned or interviewed, one is asked about one's hobbies. I have no hobby. Listening to music, reading with all my attention, these activities are part and parcel of my life; to call them hobbies would make a mockery of them. I speak as one who has had the rare opportunity to follow the path of his own intentions and to fashion his work accordingly." -Theodor Adorno, The Culture Industry
  • Education: Many moons ago, I began college looking to get a degree in Web Design, after taking a few philosophy courses, I switched majors after a year. Finished a degree in Philosophy, with a minor in Sociology at the University of Cincinnati. From there, I did a Master's in Philosophy and a Certificate in Gender Studies at the University of Miami. Now, I am currently working on a PhD in Cultural Studies at George Mason University, with my dissertation project possibly be establishing an account of negative aesthetics through a look at USBM and its politics.
