A pair of Australian brothers, David and Michael Romeo, promise you “subterranean tri-tonal augmented bone chilling hell”, if you undertake a journey alongside their newly created black metal outfit A Mournful Path. From the Wreckage of Humiliation is a lead single from what is a future upcoming release on Inverse Records later this year.

While listening to this 5 min track I wanted to analyze whether the above quoted description of their music holds true. The track is buttressed throughout by echoing brutal barbaric double bass, not overpowering in terms of production, but rather non-changing and mechanical, creating a foundation and one of the tones for this boiling cauldron. The other two tones must be the wall of indistinct riffery and lone thick distorted guitar notes, which are responsible for atmosphere. The augmentation probably comes in the form of horrid vocals, rising and falling curdling screams within the same sentence. As far as bone chilling hell, conclusions can be drawn differently. Rather than feeling hellish, I felt depressed while listening to From the Wreckage of Humiliation, the message being sent is “all existence is futile, get ready to succumb to the inevitable end”. A pretty powerful statement by A Mournful Path so far.
