I swear I did not need to check Black Dreams country of origin when listening to their 2-track single Soul Stealer. Blame it on Sentenced latter days, but the opening riff of Black Heart and friendly chug of more up tempo title track reveals them for being Finnish. This mixture of gothically tinged rock, muddied up stoner and radio friendly sing along is pretty unmistakable. Having your single released by Inverse records is another giveaway. And so Black Dreams probably have aspirations to be another hot act from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Could they be? Both songs are undeniably catchy, there is spice in bluesy mid-song guitar leads and Juha Kraapo does his best droning up a mixture of half speak/half weep vocals, but if Black Dreams want to hit the level of Babylon Whores or, more so, Sentenced they still have work to do.
