When it came to the moment to sit down and listen to Dream Spirit by Ice War, I was pretty unsure what to expect. This one man band from Canada caters to an old school sound, sounding a bit goofy at times, but also is catchy and fun at heart. After just watching the cult movie classic Spinal Tap, Ice War seemed right at home with me.

The opening track Dream Spirit feels like a blast from the past. A good rocking chug from the guitars and a wailing echo makes the head bobbing feel inescapable. Warriors of the Sea adds more of silly mood to things, but it still rocks with a heavy melodic grooves. The real gem here is the final track on the single, Chains and Leather. There’s a solid pound of rock and a catchy chorus that’s impossible to cease from singing along to. Though the single Dream Spirit may come off as a bit inane, it does a great job of delivering an amusing, good old rocking time.
