Juggernaut is to southern rock what Steel Panther is to glam metal. Still with me? Good, because whether that statement perked up your interest or sent you screaming for the nearest exit, I am here to report that Bring the Meat Back is a solid slab of southern rock goodness.

Hailing from South Africa, Juggernaut consists of four gentlemen that seem content to just lay down the riffs, attitude, and nothing more, probably from a basement somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and more than likely with a ridiculous amount of alcohol consumed in the process. That is the impression I get as songs like Back Door Woman (three guesses what it’s about, first two don’t count) and Beef or Chicken crank their way through my ears, delivering a Lynard Skynard meets ZZ Top groove with a cock rock mentality. The vocals of Herman le Roux are really the make or break point of the album. His raspy delivery is more of a controlled yell than singing, and you are either on board with it or not. Still, what he lacks in finesse he more than make up for in conviction and fucked if I care attitude, which really is the overall identity of the band. In addition he handles some of the guitar duties, which of course is more points awarded in my book. The music is nothing you haven’t heard before, but on a whole it is well executed with Train, Wors, and One of Them Days also leaving a lasting impression. Bring the Meat Back isn’t the best cut of steak out there, but it is more than worthy of a listen if you are in the mood for a tongue in cheek evening of southern rock.
