Unleash The Archers is a Canadian band from Vancouver playing a mix of Power Metal with some Melodeath. A mix of clean (female) and harsh (mostly growls) vocals. The mix between the female clean vocals and the growling death vocals is not something new, and I like the mix fine as it is, that is, with clean vocals being more present, as they are, in my opinion, better than their harsh counterpart. The band is playing quite a tight Power Metal, with great riffing, lot of energy and panache. The songs are fast and the fast riffing work and tight rhythm section does a perfect job at holding the songs towards a good direction and usually at fast pace (just like I like my power metal). The main problem for the band will be to come with original and killer material. While these three songs are announcing good things to come, I can't help but think that something is missing. Maybe more epic choruses are needed. With a few exceptions, I rarely like female vocals in Power Metal, at least not as much as male vocals. I guess if a girl's voice isn't near perfect it tend to bother me more easily. Fortunately Unleash The Archers have a great vocalist. All three tracks on this EP are great songs, with track 1 & 3 being my personal favorites. The EP can be streamed and bought online at bandcamp. It's difficult to see if the album that should follow this EP will be a great one, but this EP had me interested from the first listen and I seem to enjoy it even more after multiple repeats. I'm definitely looking forward to a full length release and I shall check their previous work as well. |
