When I last reviewed an album from German metallers Jaded Heart, I believe it was the first year of existence of this site, about 12 years ago, and the album was a compilation of the previous decade for the band. One thing that is sure with Jaded Heart, is that they deliver some positive and entertaining Hard-Rock. They are actually one of the best band in this category. So here we are 12 years later, with Common Destiny, their latest album (there released 5 albums albums since my last review, only one was reviewed by Ben in 2004).

Mixing heavy riffing with melodic choruses, the band has a particularly good flair for great vocal melodies. It may sound like Bon Jovi sometimes, but overall the band sounds more heavy, with a strong sound, sometimes almost venturing into Power Metal territory. Vocals are great, and with both riffing and melodic guitars, are my favorite things from this band, as well as choirs (I'm a sucker for choirs). What I like about Common Destiny is that its 80's metal played today, with great production, good song writing, great hooks and listening to them is always fun. There might not be anything new, the structure of the songs is somehow textbook, very little surprises here, but they play with heart and passion and the result is more than pleasing. There is variety within the song selection, some are definitely pure Hard Rock tunes while other venture to more heavy territory like Buried Alive, Are We Mental and I Believe to a name a few. The solos aren't the most complex or long for that matter, but I find them enjoyable, I particularly love the one on My Destiny, which is a longer one and quite technical while being always melodic.

I've kind of involuntary brushed this band aside for more than decade, and from the enjoyment I took listening and reviewing Common Destiny, it looks like this was a mistake on my part. The good news for me is that I now have 5 albums to look into, and maybe review some as archives from time to time. They haven't reinvented themselves on this album, but their blend of melodic hard-rock / melodic metal is still a breath of fresh air after all these years ! If you like Hard Rock or melodic metal bands, then you will most likely enjoy this album very much. Good job and looking forward to hear more (both old and new) from Jaded Heart.
