It’s been a long time that I waited for a new Impellitteri album, and I’m afraid I might be disappointed. Rob Rock’s voice is still amazing and perfect for this kind of heavy metal. This album is more in the vein of Screaming Symphony than their previous Release wich let’s face it was quite poor. The album starts with the excellent song “Beware The Devil”, a nice fast typical Impellitteri song. Like always the solos are quite impressive, although a bit too technical and not enough melodic for my taste. The second track is heavy, really heavy, too heavy for me actually… it’s almost thrashy and although it gets better in the chorus it’s far from being a good song, that’s too bad cause there’s some good ideas. The third track is fiercly fast, but still too heavy… plus there is this AWFUL bridge where a disgusting voice shouts “Generation, generation earth will prevail”…with a awful kinda techno sample in the back. The worst is that the following chorus is almost perfect, but this part just KILL the song. The album goes on alterning highs and lows… unfortunately the overall is too heavy and Impellitteri lost in melody, which for me is a wrong choice. The almost only track that is melodic from the beginning to the end is the instrumental track which rocks, but f**k why not put lyrics on this one !!! The only song that REALLY saves the day is “Turn Of The Century” with good melodies and kick ass guitar parts that demonstrate Chris Impellitteri’s talent. The only thing that really makes this album worthy is that it contains the best Impelliterri album as a bonus CD (Screaming Symphony) which contains 9 killing tracks, no questions asked. So if you don’t have it already then you can buy this 2 CDs version, otherwise I suggest you listen to it, cause even if there are some excellent moments, they are usually lost in some heavy, too heavy atmosphere. |
