Surprise of the month

If you are an AC/DC fan, you should check Sideburn. This Swiss hard-rock band releases their third album, Gasoline. If you know Krokus, I would say that Sideburn plays the same type of music. In other words, cool hard-rock music of the 80's influenced by the famous Australian band :)

Sideburn are Roland Pierrehumbert (vocals), David Pariat (lead guitar), Fred Gudit (rhythm guitar), Michel Demierre (bass) and Lionel Blanc (drums). I had the chance to discover this band on stage when I saw Dio last year. They did a great opening show. Crocodile (previous album) received good reviews from the press and Gasoline continues where the previous album ended. Rock 'n' Roll 'til you drop :)

Baby Don't Care makes a great start: a bluesy rock 'n' roll song, sending you directly to the first AC/DC albums. The second track, Gasoline, is a much faster song, filled with powerful guitars, strong bass lines and catchy riffs. The chorus gets printed in your mind in no time. When I listen to this track, I have a feeling to be in my car, with a bottle of whisky in my hand, "eating" the California's desert highways at full speed. Gangster Lover's riff remind me an old Accept track on Objection Overruled (Donation) : the rhythm lead your foot to the ground, your head slowly moves to the right and the left and the chorus does the rest. Excellent track.

Black Sheep could have been used on Back In Black album ... well I would say that the influences are evident like the nose in the middle of your face. Don't misunderstand me, this is not a copy-paste track. There is just this ambiance, this rhythm that any AC/DC fans on this planet recognize immediately. Black Sheep remains an excellent track. And it goes likes this from AC/DC, Krokus, old Accept and the traditional Swiss hard-rock trademark ...

The riff on Boots For Hire reminds me Guns N Roses (You Could Be Mine) and is an excellent ending track. In conclusion, the album has some great moments, but overshadowed by a taste of "déja-vu". Once you surpass these moments, you’ll realize that Gasoline is a good release that certainly worth your attention. Here in Switzerland we have Krokus, Gotthard, Crystal Ball and Shakra. If you are a fan of these bands, you must check Sideburn :)
