The Gathering, or let’s say Century Media, has released
this In Motion DVD which gathers the band's live performances at Dynamo
Open Air in 1996 and at Katowice in 1997. First of all, the band claims on their
homepage they don’t have anything at all to do with this DVD release,
and therefore the band is not seeing this one as an official release. Who cares
anyway? Certainly not me, since this DVD is a real pleasure for the eyes and ears.
Let me tell you, those two shows are just amazing as they include live stuff from
Mandylion and Nighttime Birds only, which is great since the
new musical direction of the band is quite different from those two aforementioned
albums. I am not saying I don’t like their newer stuff, it’s just
that I prefer the Mandylion and Nighttime Birds era.
The first show at Dynamo Open Air was filmed during the daytime, so don’t expect any sort of light show. However, this show allows us to really admire the performance of our sweetheart Anneke. The show features Eleanor, Fear The Sea, Leaves, In Motion #2, Adrenaline and Strange Machine. Could it have been any better ? I doubt it honestly. For those who don’t know about it, the song Adrenaline is only available as a single. The second show recorded at Katowice in Poland, was filmed at night and features a great light show and the songs Confusion, The May Song, New Moon Different Day, Mandylion/Sand & Mercury (what a fantastic medley), Adrenaline and Strange Machine. This show could have been better if only they had played, Kevin’s Telescope, a favorite of my wife and I, which unfortunately they seldom play live although they have released it as a single. Anyway, it’s just awesome to see the band perform such great standards and I can’t wait to transfer both shows onto audio CD and listen to them as often as I want to. This DVD features also the band’s two official promo video clips, Leaves and Liberty Bell, as well as a complete discography from 1991 to 2002. I could never thank Century Media enough for releasing such a great DVD from one of the most interesting bands on the metal scene, although they did it probably for the money and not for the fans. Anyway, get this one and enjoy it! |
