Surprise of the month

Within the past year I have had the pleasure and priviledge of keeping in touch with Bob Mitchell: former vocalist for such heavy metal bands as Attacker, Night Hunter and Sleepy Hollow. Bob's been in the metal industry now for over 22 years and his voice sounds just as good now as it did back then. He's finally reached a point in his career where "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"! And with that quote, I introduce to you, VYNDYKATOR!

Vyndykator is a five piece power metal outfit hailing from New Jersey. "Heaven Sent From Hell" is their first full length recording. It consists of seven "kick your face" power metal tracks recorded between February and May of 2002. I must say that I was impressed after just one listen. Bob Mitchell's voice can best be described as a mix between Udo of Accept and David Wayne of Metal Church. Musically the band sounds like a cross breed between Judas Priest, Metal Church, Accept and Iron Maiden, yet manage to churn out songs that give them their own sound and identity without getting lost among the rest of the crowd.

Check out tracks like "Blood Stained Gallows" and "Rot In The Chamber" as well as the instrumental "Flight of the Wombat", which goes right into a real kick ass cover of Judas Priest's "Deceiver". The production and song quality is above average. Throughout the album you'll find plenty of guitar power chord riffing, high screeching vocals, various patterns and time changes on the drums and some bass to help fill the bottom end.

The only disappointment for me is that the album is over before you know it, leaving you wanting more. I guess that is a good thing being the band has already written a number of songs for a new album entitled "The Chromium Underground", slated for release sometime in 2003.

Overall this is a very impressive and strong debut. I recommend this album to anyone that's a fan of 80's type power metal.

"Heaven Sent From Hell" is now available on vinyl through the New York based indie label OUTLAW RECORDINGS (outlawrecordings@hotmail.com ).
