Here, I have the honor of introducing you to an Unidentified Musical Object (UMO). You thought to be blasé / jaded, that nothing could ever surprise you ever again ? Make no mistake, because nobody saw this coming, when released on November 1st, 2024. Not only the font style and its disposition on the cover is literally copy / pasted from late Type O Negative, but needless to say that the encephalogram on the CD itself irremediably makes me think of Life is Killing Me, their second to last album, released in 2003. And it is obviously quite funny that the talented musician (who composed that 7 track album) had his portrait drawn in the booklet, shaking himself so hard that he could not be recognized, thus saying... "I don't wanna be me" for sure! Now, as for the identity of the musicians, several options are open : Kenny Hickey, Josh Silver (after all there is a song called Lost Silver) & Johnny Kelly. As all 3 were singing backing vocals in the aforementioned New York City gothic metal band. Or could it be one of the countless projects of Trent Reznor, who knows... all cards are on the table... rumors said last fall that we shall soon discover who it is... well we still don't know, at least I don't... As for the videoclip of They look like Shadows it delivers a girly vampiric movie with bloody kisses, worthy successor of the slasher wave from the late 1990's. Musically speaking, we are here on familiar territory with keyboards layers, weird fuzzy guitars effect, mid-tempo songs and vocals with a tone in the voice quite identical to the late Peter Steel, AKA the Green Giant. So many similarities, it is troubling, I find, but hey... never mind ! It is somewhat, slow, deep & hard and reflexive, but to my great surprise, not that much depressive... Glad to hear it, you might say ! Time will tell what this project will become, as in YouTube there is a more recent title called Black Wolf Triarchy... Note : 6.1 / 10 for non-gothic Type O fans // 9.4 for Type O Negative fans |

Killing Songs : Promethian Gift (two songs...!) and They Look Like Shadows for being straight to the point and faster, which is more than welcome! |
