One of the reasons I voted below average was b/c of the new Strato. Holy crap! I wanted to vomit all over that steaming pile of CrAAAAAAAAP!!! The new Freedom Call wasn't that bad though.

The year did have some good moments, PowerQuest, Helloween, Gamma Ray. But the rest was just mediocre, not bad, just not great.

Stratovarius wasnt that bad, in fact it wasnt bad at all. I didnt like the ballad though, did bring the album down a bit.

Stratovarius just sounded uninspired IMO, except for United (awesome song!) the album ranged from good to mediocre.

The latest FC was just generic 2nd rate PM, except for Carry On and The Eternal Flame. Far worse than Eternity, which was a great album.

The latest Hammerfall ranged from good to pretty boring. No real standout songs. Their weakest yet.

My 2 cents :P

Nevermore is power metal?

They're a combo of power and thrash really though you can't lump them in one niche because there are several elements in their music.

I strongly disagree they are power in anyway(if you mean power metal like Gamma Ray,not like Pantera)!imo they're a combination of thrash ,Progressive metal,Heavy metal and sometimes they have some Morbid Angel's influences;but they're very far from Stratovarius or Helloween,if you see what i mean.

Power metal has sucked since the mid 90's.

Sonata Arctica are gayer than Rob Halford!

I haven't really followed the power metal scene in recent years. When i want power metal, i just listen to old Helloween or something.

I also really liked Kiuas's new album, and Biomechanical if you consider them power metla, which you probably don't... and Helloween's album...

Yep.

In all seriousness, the vast majority of music from all times sucks.

Power Metal does not equal european bands like Gamma Ray. There's an American Power Metal scene too which is heavier and darker than its european counterpart... comparing Nevermore to that scene it can very well be called Power Metal... though as people mentioned earlier it's a mix of many styles...

imo, Nevermore are not power metal... just plain "old school oriented" heavy metal... I would better define then by saying I think they're a mix of early-Metallica, Queensrÿche & Armored Saint... all that with a modern production which makes it very suitable for younger ears... but that doesn't make it a power metal act... :?

To me Nevermore are just metal with awesome riffs, awesome solos, greats songs and an extremely dramatic singer.

That's how I describe them ^.^

I think this year was good but with less then one month left to Rocket Ride I think 2006 has the potential to be really great.
