Its not just that Pantera didn't re-release their early albums, but they allowed them to go out of print.

And, while I've never had the 'pleasure' of seeing a Pantera performance, I'd be willing to bet that from Cowboys on, they didn't play any of the stuff from their first four albums.

For me its always been there. I've always thought they were terrible.

"Cowboys" wasn't bad, but was nothing amazing either. And there's far too much 'agressive metal' shit coming out at the moment.

Because listening to Pantera in this climate is unbearable. They started it, they apologise.

So... if you had a son that grew up to be an unbearable asshole, you would have to issue a public apology and be held responsible for all his actions?

Yay, I'm no longer held liable for anything. I'm going to go shoot potatoes at the tourists.

If my 10 year old goes around pulling women's skirts down, smashing windows and scrumping apples, yes I would be responsible.

Just like we blame Faith No More and Anthrax for strating rap-metal, we blame Pantera for aggressive metal, and Buddy Holly for all this metal shit in the first place.

It's Pantera's fault that people emulate them?

Okay, then video games really DO make you kill people.

Or they create the impulse in your mind to. Some people are mentally ill, confuse video games with reality, and so follow their impulses. It's wrong to say that games/movies etc don't affect people at all, there wouldn't be much enjoyment in them if they didn't.

The point is that you can only blame Pantera for the aggro-metal trend in a sense that they pioneered it, and that's not sufficient reason to hate them unless you enjoy being completely illogical.

There's usually about twenty seconds of coolness in an average Pantera song, coated by three minutes of what's basically sludge played way too fast.

I could make a good ten minute "Best of Pantera" tape.. it'd be a medley.

I don't hate them, just find them dull.

Allowed them to go out of print? They released them on their own label! They extremely limited pressings. Almost all bands do this! When you have no money, how to do you keep pressing albums? Also, they released an album a year basically, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1988, I think.

You guys are weird.

While I don't know all the ins and outs of the industry, I'd imagine some back catalogue specialists like Castle or Connoisseur would have been happy enough to pick up the releasing of the previous albums. You're kidding yourself if you think they Pantera didn't try to bury their 80s output.

You're entitled to find them dull, but you can't blame em for metalcore. Or for aggro-metal.

If I think? How about the band never once denied it! Shouldn't that be good enough?

While I've got no proof to offer, I've always thought it was a 'known thing' that Anselmo in particular would go crazy if anyone tried to ask him about pre-Cowboys Pantera.

That, plus I'm a cynic. So I win.

That's because Phil is a poser. The real Pantera—Vinnie and Dimebag—never denied it.

What about poor old Rex? He always gets left out of things!

He does. He's a bassist, they're of no consequence! Haha.

I've heard that Phil Anselmo kicked the ass of some dude who asked him to autograph a pre-CFH album (can't remember which one).

And, for the record, i like Pantera.
