Killers is better as a whole, but I absolutely adore S/T, "Phantom of the Opera" and "Transylvania" in particular.

Iron Maiden has a better singer , better guitar players,way much better drummer,way much better bassist and better songwriting than mettallica, so Iron Maiden wins.

These are all good reasons, but I think you forgot to mention how much better they are than Metallica.

Better singer? Both are very different, so i cant compare.
Better guitarists? Maiden i smigen above Metallica.
Better drummer? Yes.
Better bassist? Yes.

Songwriting doesnt mean much to me, but in this case i prefer the songwriting of old Metallica (Kill 'Em thru to Justice) over Maiden songwriting. Not saying Maiden songwriting is bad, far from it.

Whats so funny? Song writing is the least important thing for me when listening to metal. If it is to you, then fine. Everyone is different.

What in the world could POSSIBLY matter more than actual songwriting...? Sure, performances and production matters a lot to me too, but if the songwriting isn't there, the music automatically turns to crap. Seems so obvious to me.

Thats where people are different. You hold songwriting in high regard, i dont. If the song sounds great i'll like it, whatever the lyrics are about. Because its metal, its not like their gonna write pop lyrics now are they.
I see it as rather picky. The song, musically may be the nuts, but unless the lyrics are gold you wont like it?

song writing is actually meant as composition... so it's like you said you don't matter if the band can compose good songs as long as the production's good ? silly, isn't it ? :roll:

I have a simple formula.....if it sounds good to my ears, i will like it. I dont break the song up into lyrics or production or any of that.
Just if it sounds good to me. I find it rather easy.

OK, well if you mean the writing of the song, including music and lyrics, etc, yeah i understand. Like i said, if it all sounds good to me, i will like it. One must then assume that the songwriting would be good. If a song has a weird structure or just doesnt sound right, then songwriting would not be as good.
Again it all comes down to whether i like it or not. Personal taste. I dont have a scorecard when listening to albums, categorised with all these elements to make sure you know a good song when you hear it.

OK, how bout this. You give me a song, any popular metal song, that you dont like the songwriting. Type the name and band and give an example of why. This is the only way we will sort this out

Metallica. Maiden just never really turned me on much (though I do like Run To The Hills).

Talking lyrics, both bands are very different, so they'd have very different lyrics. I like both band's lyrics, but i just like what Metallica wrote from their Kill 'Em All thru to Justice albums.

It's not a crime to still like Metallica, u know. I just consider St. Anger to be a bad dream, try to forget about it...
