Okay, somebody had to bring this Phil Anselmo/Pepper Keenan side project up eventually. What does everybody think of the "Southern Metal" supergroup Down?

For me, they're a definite Hit. Both NOLA and A Bustle... are two of my favorite heavy metal albums this generation.

they're not the melvins but they're respectably sludgy. a modest hit.

Hit. The first one is excellent, the second is just decent.

They'd be a lot better if Dildo Anselmo wasn't their singer, but I can't call them a miss because their first album was pretty good.

Hit

NOLA is a kick-arse album, but 'II: A Bustle In Your Hedgegrow' is pretty lame imo.

I should probably say that Down II does take a few listens to really get into. When I first bought it, I was put off by the mirky production (the album is rumored to have been recorded and mixed in Phil Anselmo's barn over in the middle of a Louisiana bayou - no joke), slower tempos, and very "old" sound. But after listening to it more, I got used to all three things and discovered it's really a great album.
