does Marco sing in a different style with Tarot? because if he does the same Once voice then nevermind. he's not a bad singer, but his voice simply doesn't do it for me.

HEY!!!, i´m quite new in here, so hi everybody. Well, i´ve never been a "die hard" nightwish fan, but have bought 1 album and DL the rest :P( too expensive here in Argentina, where Tarja´s husbund is from). I´ve always thought that Tarja sang "good", but while hearing other opera singers (REAL opera singers) and those from similar bands, i´ve realized that she was far from being good. Well, in MY opinion, it´s a chance for a big band to have some kind of "Fresh air", and maybe improving the songwriting too. It really doesen´t matter wether she´s pretty or not (better if she is!!), coz image does not make a band perfomacnce or songwritting good.
Well, hope tarja finally decides to make a real porn-opera DVD for all the horny nightwish fans, at least to leave a fair image to all :P :P
hehe
C Ya!!!

A guy in the Nightwish forum mentioned Martina Hornbacher who sang on Therion - Vovin. I haven't heard her, but what do you guys think about it?

sterile, polished, clean, static, lifeless...

'Once' has a lot of flutes, trumpets and fanfare, but the songs themselves are weak

Hmmm...I can hear it, but can she tone down the operatics? is the question.

Also, listening to the Operatika CD on the way to work today, I think she would fit very well, too.

EDIT: Operatika - The Calling (for those who haven't heard them)

Okay, maybe when I said Iced Earth was dead, I should have made it clear that it was my OPINION. I dont expect anybody to agree with me (though I know there is a large enough population that does) just because I speak my mind. I hate the new approach Jon has taken to the song writing, and I see Ripper Owens only as a covers band singer trying to be something he isn't. End of Story. No more Iced Earth talk, I'm sorry I brought the whole thing up.

Back to Nightwish.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say that Tarja was not the reason that I started listening to Nightwish. In fact, it took me a while to adjust to her vocal style and begin to actually like it. It was the combined musical experience that drew me in, which is more so Tuomas' doing than Tarja's since Tuomas was the mastermind behind all Nightwish music. Is not having Tarja in Nightwish gonna suck? Prolly. But if they find another talented voice that fits their musical style, Nightwish will remain on the top of their game. I have no doubts about that.

Now I understand why their show in the Chicago House of Blues was canceled long long time ago......I am mad, since I really wanted to see them along with Sonata Arctica.......
Think it was her fault......

One thing you'll notice is that Tarja never refuted what that open letter said about her. If someone said those things about me and they were false, I would have defended myself like a motherfucker! :D

no.
I Wish I had an Angel is absoludicrous, with it's techno beat and vocal duos ripped straight off Evanescence.
Creek Mary's Blood is one of the worst attempts at being 'epic' I heard. it's one mess of a song.
the ballad sung in the beautiful Finnish tongue made me laugh for a long time.
Nightwish trying to thrash out on songs like Romanticide turn out totally crude and awkward...
and so on

It’s posts like this that are irritating. It’s so baseless. “Wish I Had An Angel” is an awesome song (yes, this is subjective), and that is NOT a techno beat at all. Listen to techno first before you say something is techno. Yes, it is a driving beat, and somewhat programmed, but it is far from techno. And vocal duos ripped straight from Evanescence? See, this is a clear example of your ignorance. Over two full-length albums, three demos and tons of unreleased songs Evanescence have had another vocalist on ONE FUCKING SONG! Not only that, “Bring Me To Life” was originally recorded without male vocals, it was a label decision to put that guy on that song AFTER it was initially recorded, they’re NOT a dual vocal band. But, of course, Nightwish copied Evanescence with the dual vocals and techno beat when Evanescence have one song—out of about two-hundred—with dual vocals and not one song with a techno beat, or anything remotely close! Good call.

“Creek Mary’s Blood” is a fucking ballad, where does the epic notion come into play?? Because it’s long? “Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan” is absolutley no different than songs like “Swanheart” and “Angels Fall First.” The end of “Romanticide” is a bit chaotic and messy, but other than that the song kicks ass! Crude??

Once has more in common with Oceanborn than any other album they’ve done! Yet Oceanborn is a classic and Once sucks?? More like Oceanborn came out when Nightwish weren’t popular so it’s cooler to like that album.

I would more or less agree with you. And the "thrash out" thing really got to me too. I was never particularly into Emppu's playing (and I try to ignore most of his solos), but he's solid enough and worked in with the band nicely before "Once". With "Once" it just sounded to me like he built off what he did with "Slaying the Dreamer" on CC (a song I never really cared for) and was tryiing to play like Michael Romeo or something. I don't really understand why except I guess (or hope anyway) that sound is what he and the band wanted. And that's fine for them I suppose, but I'll pass on it. ... I really think they sacrificed a lot of what made them Nightwish with "Once" which just came out sounding generic, dull, etc.

Totally agreed. It seemed like this song was stuck in the middle of the album with no rhyme or reason. It interrupts the entire flow of the album and really doesn't impress me at all. I always skip this track when I listen to Once. It appears to be epic for the sake of being epic and leaving behind songwriting.

BTW, I think Once is a kickass record overall.

The only thing I dislike about that song is the indian shit. That just doesn't fit, everything else I like. And it's not epic at all...it's just long. Big difference.

While I agree with you about "Creek Mary's Blood", which is prolly for me, one of the weakest songs on "Once", "I Wish I Had an Angel" and "Romantice" are two of my favorite songs on the album. So what if "I Wish I had an Angel" uses a drum machine beat. It works for that song. And how can you draw comparisions between Evanescence and Nightwish? Two totally different beasts. Just cause Nightwish decided to do vocal duos doesnt mean they are ripping someone else off. Trying to say that Nightwish rips off Evanescence is like saying German beer rips off Budweiser. It just doesnt happen.

Good on Nightwish for sticking to their guns, they have all my respect and admiration.

I'm glad you're posting in a non-Miraje thread, you one-armed prick! :D

Amazing, I knew you were going to say that :)...

I always thought Creek Mary's Blood to be one of the highlights on Once. However, once the Native American stuff comes on, I just skip it.

IMHO he sings pretty damn good in Tarot.Much more powerful and he hits some damn good high notes.

The reason why he sings different in NW is because NW is different then Tarot and plus Tuomas wants his range to be limited.
