I still think so much ppl like nightwish because they got so polished... I think they got better only in production... Getting the orchestra instead of synth playing the symphonic parts. It instantly creates the majestic feeling and the sound is much richer (dnt know many bands who synth every orchestra instrument)... The same would happen if Summoning would use the real orchestra in their music.

About the Nightwish vs After Forever vocals.... They dnt have the same range nor the same stile of singing. The art of Taria is that she makes the feeling of singing high notes but she actualy sings pretty low (not at all soprano). When Floor hits the high notes in (for instance) My Pledge of Allegiance Taria could blow her volcal cords out and couldn't get so high.

That is far from sayin that Taria sucks ass... I just think that more fragile soprano stile (Floor) Suits the Beauty and the Beast style more because it is more in contrast with growls. Since the Nightwish dnt use growls that is not a prob....
So Floor singing fits After Forever better as Taria would IMHO. About Floor fitting better in Nightwish music... I just can't tell...

Sorry, I just love my Nightwish and After Forever is total crap compared to and it has nothing to do with slick or polished production as my favorite album is Oceanborn and there is nothing polished about that.

We've had this one out before (probably in this post :roll: ) but comparisons between Nightwish and After Forever, Tristania, {involuntary shudder} Evanescence etc, are baseless and about as valid as comparing Nattefrost with Freedom Call. Having a chick singing does_not make you a Gothic Metal band (or Goth-pop in the case of E'scence).

Nightwish isn't really my thing and I can't seem to understand what people like so much about them. They have a few songs that I actually like when I'm in the mood and only then.. Sometimes their cheesiness reach almost unprecedented heights which can be funny. That's the best thing about Nightwish

I don't know what the hype over this band is. I mean, they aren't as horrible as say, Korn or something, but I don't know how the press and the fans can justify so much hype over a band that sounds like evry other female-fronted gothic rock band.

They're not gothic rock. They're operatic metal. A female front does not a gothic rock band make.
The music is actually very, very good. As I've said before, I just hate operatic vocals like Tarja's. Though we'll see what happens now.
