So looks like she turned her back on the band.

The things fame and fortune make one do...

Didn't see this one coming. It's cool to see that Nightwish chose passion over money/popularity (Tarja).

Are you serious? I saw this coming a long time ago. Ever since I watched their DVD and saw how the band NEVER did anything with Tarja. She's on the DVD for only a few minutes during the concerts. The whole time on tour, she has her own bus and is off doing her solo things. I'm not at all surprised. In fact, I thought this was going to happen a lot sooner.

I certainly did not see this coming. I think that Tarja is a wonderful vocalist, but if that truly how she is then they need to find someone else. I know their are plenty of singers out there that can fill the role, it will just take some getting used to. As long as they dont change their style too much, it shouldnt be a major problem. A sad day indeed.

From my reply in the Doom Forum:

What the fuck?!?! Hahaha! Why the hell is that on their website? She must have REALLY pissed them off! Goddamn!

Look, Tarja is a great vocalist, but I have been a fan of this band since 1999 when I picked up Angels Fall First in Korea. Don't ask me why I bought it, the cover is gay, but I gave it a shot. I'd never heard of the band before. When "Elvenpath" kicked in I was floored! I'd NEVER heard anything like it, nothing even close. The reason why Nightwish is so special is simple: TUOMAS! Bottom line. And since 1999 I have read many, many interviews where Tarja discusses her desire to do REAL opera again! Maybe you don't know, maybe you do, but Tarja's involvement in the band was only supposed to be for one demo, that demo became Angels Fall First, then Oceanborn and so on. I never got the vibe she truly wanted to be in Nightwish, it was always Tuomas's band, his music. And maybe that "hot front woman" label got into her head? Who knows!

Tarja was a great addition to the band and emphasizes Tuomas's playing, but Tarja hasn't used her grand opera style since Oceanborn and the band still kicks ass in above their peers. Tuomas said it best: "Nightwish is, however, a scenery of my soul and I`m not ready to let go because of one person." They will find a new singer and continue to kick tons of ass. Tarja will be missed, but at this point she is not irreplacable.

I'm not very Nightwish informed as the band isn't of my musical interest, so no, I never saw the DVD and I never heard/read the rumors.

Yeah, if you followed the band it really comes as no surprise. No matter, Tarja was using less of the opera voice lately anyway. Easily replaceable. I call on Floor Jansen to step up!! That would RULE!

Floor would be a good replacement but that's doubtful due to her involvement with After Forever.

I'm not surprised myself after seeing and hearing about the turmoil that was surrounding the band it doesn't come as a shock.

Tarja's husband who also became her manager.

I pretty much liked Tarja's voice over all the rest female vocalists, but if she's really such a diva it's good they got rid of her.

Legendary Finnish ski-jumper, olympic champion, world champion, porn star, stripper, drunk, ex-convict / currently charged in stabbing, singer, national icon Matti Nykänen is rumoured to replace Tarja.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Seriously, I didn't see this coming (I haven't watched the DVD) and I was shocked and upset about Tarja's behaviour, but Nightwish is one of my top 3 all time favorite bands, one of the bands that got me into metal 3 years ago. I don't want to say that Nightwish is dead now, but...it won't be the same witout Tarja.

Edit: By the way, their website is down...

Hehehe, yeah I might start listening to Nightwish when they get Floor Jansen. I like her voice a lot more and she doesn't have a crappy accent.

Nightwish was for me as well one of those that got me interested in metal and it would be a sad thing to see them go. But I don't think that they'll quit just yet. Maybe Tuomas goes to a mental hospital and realizes that they can't go on without each other haha...
Some of the lyrics on Once made me think that something like this could be happening, of course I couldn't be sure if it was just another story with no relation to real life. Dead gardens is one of those songs that gave that sort of "vibes".
But I wouldn't like to judge anything before hearing both sides here.

looks like the curb met Tarja's ass on that one. I like Nightwish well enough, but I think truthfully that they'll be better off without her. there is just SOMETHING about her vocals that seems offf tilt at times. She's certainly talented, but at the same time, I've often felt her voice and the music weren't in harmony with each other. Maybe it's the accent, maybe something else. Whatever, .....hit the bricks Bitches! shame she went out like a punk. oh well, guess the world didn't end, so how important could it really be?
