I went to a flea market today and and some guy had tapes on for 2 bucks each, so I bought:

Testament - Return To The Apocalyptic City... I believe its a live recording but it sounds like studio stuff, sound quality is surprisingly good for a cassette. Plus each of the 6 songs kick ass, I just ate my gf out to it! WHOA! I mean.. The cover art is FFFaaantastic.

I also bought Depeche Mode's "People Are People", its not metal, but its Depeche Mode, so it rules.

I just went to a flea market again and picked up:

Rush - Presto
Savatage - Dead Winter Dead
Dio - Killing The Dragon

All in good condition and each for 8 bucks, not bad. Beats paying 27.99 for each at HMV.

Iced Earth - Horror Show
Stratovarius - Destiny
Primal Fear - Black Sun
Kamelot - Epica

Got a bit tired of listening to MTV-type rock & punk so gone back into the archives for some classic power & true metal. Not got anything by these bands before (odd considering i've got over 700 CD's!). Very impressed. Looking at getting into Hammerfall, Rhapsody & Edguy. Any recommendations guys?

For prog or power, you are off to a good start.

I recommend starting with the more popular stuff

Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys I and II, The Dark Ride
Angra - Temple of Shadows, Rebirth, Angels Cry
Blind Guardian - (All of their Albums)
Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica, Silence
if you like Hammerfall then get Nocturnal Rites - Sacred Talisman

Once you get a better taste for Power Metal;
Cellador - Demo
Hibria - Defying the Rules
Twilightning - Delirium Veil
Dude I could go forever. Just stick around the forums, you will find a crap load of good bands here.

Thanks dude. Already got the Helloween stuff cos i was into that in the 80's but that kind of stuff got harder to come by through the 90's so lost touch with the scene & got into Pantera, Sepultura etc. to fill the gap. But the recent revival (if it ever went away) of power metal has got me listening to some great stuff from the past 5 years. Sounds like there's plenty out there to go at. Cheers!
