What do you think?? I voted YES simply because when I'm in a certain mood, I really like this album! Hahaha. "Step Out Of Hell" is my favorite track!

It's defintely a weird fucking album and I can't listen to it all the time, but like tonight, I got my Helloween MP3 CD playing here on shuffle and every time one of these songs come on I'm like, "This is great fucking tune!" Tomorrow I may put it on and go, "Ugh! Not this fucking song!!" Hahaha.

I still have never heard Pink Bubbles Go Ape!! It's the only Helloween album I don't have. What's it like? Same shit??

It's not their worse (the title goes to the unchallenged Chameleon) but still a very poor album not because Helloween changed (which actually fine by me) but because they changed to be shittier than they ever was at this particular time of their history... :?

a big miss

EDIT : why did I wrote that post about Pink Bubbles Go Ape ? :?

I voted hit just b/c "First TIme" fucking rules. That and Kiske sings on it. But yeah, like Eyesore said, you definitly need to be in the mood for this album.

Miss.
The crappiest Helloween album. This is bad even for Helloween standarts.I doubt i'll ever again waste my time with this album. It is simply not worth it.Much better albums deserve my attention than Chameleon.Few songs stand out like Giants and Step Out Of Hell, but they are far from being killer.I personally detest this and seeing how i forgot to give this a score i rate it 40.

It's clearly not one of their better albums but I do enjoy listening to it and I guess that all you can expect from an album. It has some good songs like "First time", "In the night", "Step out of Hell" and "I don't wanna cry no more".
Hell, if I'm really in the mood I can even like "Windmill". I'm not sure what mood that might be though, perhaps I just don't want to know.
I think it's underrated, and I vote YES. I also like Kiske's two solo-albums which I guess is why I'm more prone to liking this album.
I prefer "Pink Bubbles go Ape" though.

You like Kiske's solo albums??? All I needed was R.T.S. to convince me to never buy anything he puts out again!! Hahaha. Terrible album!!

I've been here long enough to know that you'd hate this album from beginning to end! Hahahaha!

I wanted to add my opinion.

I'm all for a band who wants to change or do something new so as long as the songs are good.Case in point Stratovarius I don't like their new album not because they changed but because they didn't have songs that were catchy to me.Now on the other hand I liked Chameleon and didn't mind the direction that the band made even when they started with PBGA.

In fact 2 of my favorite songs from Helloween are on this album believe it or not I Believe and Giants.

I'm an open minded type of guy so as long as it turns out good then I'll give it a listen that is why I like this album because it's got good songs yes it's not the classic Helloween we all know and love nor is it the best album they did but it's not the turd bomb everyone claims it to be.It's different yeah but it's got some damn good songs nonetheless it's 10000000000000000 times better then Selloutica's St Anger.

I think the problem with this CD is that it's sandwiched between both Keeper albums and the Deris era.Had this started first or even later on it might have caught on but this came out at a bad time. Not only did it come after Pink Bubbles but it came at a time where everyone was so used to Kiske and Helloween's sound due to the Keeper albums that this became a stinker and IMHO it's not.

So it's a hit for me!!!!!

Usually i like to defend an album that the majority hates(for example one of my favorite albums from the 90s is The X Factor),but this time i have to agree with the majority:Chameleon is not a good album;it has some of the worst songs ever:Windmill,Revolutionnow,In the Night...A sad swansong for the Kiske era.

after a close listen of Helloween's Chameleon, here are my thoughts :

1. First Time : good Helloween song, not a classic but certainly a good song… 7/10
2. When the Sinner : starts pretty good but the song stretches for too long, they keyboard and horns don’t work much and, overall, it’s not a very strong song… 3/10
3. I Don’t Wanna Cry No More : shows us what Kiske was aiming to… so classic rock that is (which his voice doesn’t fit too well)… I feel this song could have been chosen by Germany for the Eurovision contest… that says how annoying it is… (plus it kind of reminds me of Uriah Heep’s major german hit, Lady in Black, which sucked too… worst song by UH in their classic era). 2/10
4. Crazy Cat : the ultimate proof that german metallers can’t groove… awful song, really… what took on them when they did that remains a mystery too me (even more when I can feel the song could have been way better if played in a more classic Helloweeny style or by another band with the ability to groove properly). 2/10
5. Giants : not bad but not great either… I would have liked the same song to be faster and heavier… it would have kicked ass… but that wasn’t Helloween’s way back then and so, it’s just average when it could have been great… 5/10
6. Windmill : another mainstream song… with a crappy mainstream production too… sounds more like Wet Wet Wet (remember ?) than Helloween… so the song is not exactly bad but it’s damn annoying and definitely not what one would expect from a metal band. 2/10
7. Revolution Now : once again (see When The Sinner) the production ruins it for it’s a good song, somehow reminiscent of Dio’s Black Sabbath & Queensrÿche… Kiske does a pretty good job on vocals and the guitars are quite catchy. Even the mellower part fits… other than the production, one can argue this song is about two or three minutes too long (for it gets boring towards the solo part to the end)… still, one of the strongest songs on Chameleon (but that does not imply a very high quality standard). 5/10
8. In The Night : another attempt to produce a potentially different Helloween sound… and another mainstream sell-out song but , actually, I think this one works pretty well… the piano is sweet and the drummer almost grooves… so, okay, this is not Helloween but a bluesy popish tune that no one would have expected from a bunch of german metallers but, really, the main problem is to find this song on that particular album… it would have fitted perfectly (as the different song) on any other Helloween album but on Chameleon it kind of gets lost in the middle of an ocean of crap… 6/10
9. Music : what’s that again ? more crappy horns, more lousy keyboards (but the lead guitars are pretty sweet) and another song that stretches for way too long (7minutes when 5minutes would have been sufficient)… another song, average, ruined by its production… I really don’t know what they tried to achieve with Music but, whatever it is, it’s a miss… 4/10
10. Step Out Of Hell : not a good song at all…sounds like some Bonfire (remember ?) which is never meant as a compliment coming from me…. Imho, this is the crappiest song on the whole album… a desperate attempt to be in the charts probably too… I’ll give it one point out of my insane generosity and because of a good bridge (not much to save I know). 1/10
11. I Believe : average at best, a classic filler… not bad, not good, not memorable at all either… one I could have easily lived without… even more considering it stretches for 9 minutes (which makes it ultimately boring)!!! 3/10
12. Longing : the final ballad just in case the previous songs didn’t bore you enough… and again, the same problems appears, this is too damn mainstream (on a too damn mainstream album) to bear the good name of Helloween… orchestral arrangements (or pseudo ones), acoustic guitars, mellow voice, all is here to remind you Helloween were, back then, trying to succeed out of the metal scene which they missed before they were just not good enough at it. Longing is the final proof of the waste this album is… 3/10

Rate : 35/100

Stacked up against the other Helloween albums and it's crap, but take it out of context and it's not that bad. Not amazing, but there are a good number of quality songs on this one.

First Time would have been great with the proper production... same with Revolution Now or Giants... that hardly makes a good album in or out of context... :?

As Eyesore said: Taken out of context it's an excellent soft/rock album, with the ocasional "heavier" tracks. The production prevents these track to be really "heavy", but despite that it's a good album, and as mentioned above Kiske sings on it... so I voted a YES! I hated it when it first came out, it was my first proper HELLOWEEN Album ( the first one I bought) , I've listened to all the others before it ,borrowed them from my friends, and this one was a big dissapointment... BUT it grew on me... what saves it is Kiske's voice and Giants, I believe, LONGING, Music, Step out Of Hell, First Time, the San Francisco theme in Revolution now and depending on mood, the others are also pretty good :)... BUT, if it were to be another band except Helloween, I seriously doubt that I'd take so much time and patience to "get" it, and I'd surely label it as SHIT!

P.S. Excellent hit or miss topic
