Pfft. Black Sabbath bores and meanders and Preist has a handful of good songs that are drowned out by decades of flat out sucking, MDB shits all over their tired uneven catalogues (figuratively speaking). Maiden is the only one mentioned that has the consistent awesomeness to be considered truly among the greatest, and even they had some down moments. Not to say MDB is the most astounding band ever assembled, but they do have a strong career (certainly more than most) and a hand in pioneering extreme Doom Metal to boast of, and have written some classic songs.

Sabbath gets way too much credit for simply being Sabbath while no one seems to care that they are often lame, and the same goes for Priest. I know they are sacred cows of Metal but for fuck's sake, just because any number of douchebags working for a magazine or website can list them in a greatest album list shouldn't be your trump card in arguing the merrits of the bands.

Priest only had 2 or 3 sucky albums in 36 years of service. The rest range from good to legendary. They are consistent enough, by any standards.
A handful of good songs? I actually think they are the band with the greatest number of killer songs in metal. It would take too long just to remember them all.

I agree about BS though, they often tend to bore me too. But they're still more influential than MDB will ever hope to be. That said, I'll listen to MDB over BS any given day.

Hey, Radical Cut, thanks for your support. I've been murdered around here for criticizing Priest. I appreciate you recognizing MDB's talent even if you don't like everything they have ever done.
Out of curiousity, which albums do you think were their high notes and low notes? I still think Like Gods of the Sun was their worst album.

Like gods of the Sun

IMO the worst is that 34%..... whatever. I have only just got hold of the Dreadful Hours but so far this looks like it could be my favourite. Stunning opening track.

I found My Dying Bride to do the same thing.

Yes, Rio. The Dreadful Hours is one of my favorite MDB albums. The title track is an exercise in loud/soft dynamics.

I second that.... When it really builds up to the climax it makes me shiver.... Using that thunder sound when saying Doom

Having not heard any other albums besides Turn Loose The Swans (i think that's what it's called) and Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light which are two really well done dark, atmospheric metal albums. Theyre much more 'gothic' than fucking Evanescence or HIM. It's rather ironic that hardly any goths , or at least any that I've heard of, even know about MDB.

MDB are one of my favourite bands ever... Someone said here that MDB didn't get any album of the year award. Sure they didn't look at how many ppl even listen to doom? If reviewers and critics don't like that kind of music how couold it win awards?
When u say Maiden are the best. They can be for u but IMO MDB kicks their ars. tis true i prefer melancholic and slower music without high male vocals...But hey i am writing about my opinion too...

I just hate the label "gothic". Reminds me too much of goths. The only album by MDB that was high in "gothic" points was Like Gods of the Sun. MDB is doom, and crosses into deathy terroritory on parts of As the Flower Withers and blackish terrain on The Dreadful Hours.

Quoting yourself when you didn't have anything much to say in the first place is extremely relevant and necessary, as well as comical.
