Post subject: Green Day - American Idiot

Seeing as to how Green Day happens to be one of my guilty pleasures (I don't care what the "punk underground" says, Dookie is a classic), does anybody here recommend getting this album?

for a pretty commercial anti USA(it's been done, guys) punk album it's quite amusing but still not worth buying. And the September ends songs makes me puke my guts out

If you want to hear Punk, buy some Discharge or U.K. Subs or Circle Jerks or Rudimentary Peni or Black Flag or Raw Power or
Dr. Know or Scum Army ... if you want to hear pop buy Green Day or Blink 182.

I agree that Black Flag is excellent. The song TV Party is a definite classic. Though for the record, I think Bad Religion is my favorite punk band overall. They had about five minutes of fame with Stranger Than Fiction (ironically my favorite album by them) before ending up back in the underground after their style of music was declared "obsolete" by the masses.

And yes, I know Green Day are MTV darlings. But hey, they certainly beat the pants off almost anything else MTV plays these days (save for may be Queens Of The Stone Age).

American Idiot is a good album... lots of Kinks/Who influences... so sure it's not Punk Rock any more (was it ever anyway ?) but it's good classic rock, better than 99,99% of what can be seen on MTV

I like punk; the energy, the attitude, and the inherently minimalistic hooks; hey, I am not knocking Green Day: they are good at what they do, I just always thought it was funny that they were ever really considered punk, along wuth Rancid, Blink 182, et al.
It can't be said enough: MTV blows.

Well, you know, if all the bands on the planet were reduced to the bands played frequently on MTV, Green Day would definitely rank up there. So there is some truth to that statement.
