Rules are anathema to art, my freind.

on the contrary I think a little constraint can sometimes pushes the art to a higher level (works for me)

I think a good idea would be to have themes for each "lyrics' fight" that way our votes could be more accurate in judging the writing skills of each contender....

How can constraint push art to a higher level? Constraint (not to be confused with restraint) goes against everything "art" stands for.
Constraint, rules and pre-ordained themes are for art class and whores in it for the money... that is why television, movies and run-of-the-mill music blows.
Fuck rules.

every society is based on rules V.

otherwise it would be chaos :(

True... but we are not talking about society, we are talking about art, specifically, poetry.
V.

as I said, it works for me... it kind of stimulates my creativity... :D

but we sure are not all built from the same material....

wouldn't you fancy trying it in the next lyrics contest anyway ? could be über fun imo

For me it is just the opposite... a shocker, eh? :P
Although in another time and place a contest with such boundaries (ugh...) could be interesting.

Well, what I meant was that if you submit three songs per round rahter than one, you have a larger chance to win. It's like one artist showing three paintings and the other one just one.I don't care if you want to submit more lyrics, but then everyone should submit that amount... I like the theme thing for forthcomming rounds! Shall the voting time be longer?

That's actually a good point. I won my round by one vote, and one person (the identity of whom I'm far too lazy to look up) said they only voted for me because one of my entries was in the verse-chorus format. Specifying a limit to the number of entries (I disagree with a line limit simply because those drive me nuts if it's not real formal poetry) would be a good idea.

Agreed, and I still think you should do it in Helheim rather than the D/BM forum.

I thought I made the rules clear... post as many lyrics as you like, only one set will count. No need to get fiesty. As for a limit? Bullshit~! 1 line to 25 pages is chill, as long as it's cool!

Gast vs Valefor? Valefor did make a challege... so, that'd put Carnifex against DM. Any disagreements? Or maybe Valefor should face TIE. :P :P :P :P

Exactly... I thought the rules were no rules (basically)...
what do you say about a 48 hour voting span?

That sounds good. If it's all right with everyone, I'd like Dead Machine and I to go first, since I had to go last during the first round. Also, my internet access might be spotty next week, since I'm visiting my brother in Florida (and will be doing my best to corrupt him with my metal ways! )

So... we're all in agreement?
Carnifex vs. Aaron round 1,
Misha vs. yours truly, round 2?

Carnifex already left, OFC hasn't been on for a while.

Why don't you and Misha just go ahead, and I'll take on Carnifex when she gets back?

Actually, I forgot she was going to be in Florida; she wanted to be first, so we should wait.

Apologies, guys. I got into some trouble recently, so I went MIA... anyhow, you can start your matches whenever, as you all know (and were planning to do, anyway). My only advice is to honor the deadlines you set, because in a metal free write no other rules exist. :P

I don't know the deal with Carnifex, but when she gets back, I wont cry if you all go on with this without me.

Slayer of Kings and TIE want to participate as well, how about calculating them in now? must be a way... More lyrics = more fun, and this contest isn't crazy enough yet...
