I'd always thought of Mistress as being more in that Iron Monkey kind of vein than being a grind band. Of course, this is no bad thing.

Does anyone here like Raging Speedhorn?

From what I've heard of their new album, they're going more grindy. Raging Speedhorn I don't mind in small doses, not enough variation really for me. What's the new album like?

Actually I haven't heard the new album myself

I dunno why I asked that question really. We just seemed to be talking about UK grind! They are an interesting case though. When they first appeared they seemed to be marketed squarely at nu-metal kids, as if they were the best way to get them on to more extreme things. I've always thought them worth a listen though, in a kind of stripped down, sludgy riffs type of way. Viking Skull, their side project, really sucked though IMHO.

Nasum's Helvete and Shift sure got me into Grind.

The only Viking Skull track I've heard ('Beer Drugs And Bitches') I liked, although I haven't listened to it for ages so maybe my subconsious is trying to tell me something!
If you like sludgey riffs try Crowbar's latest album, 'Lifesblood For The Downtrodden'.

I am thoroughly pro bands expressing political sentiments (so long as they are left-wing :P  ) but the problem with grind bands doing so is their incomprehensibility.

With this band I like the novelty whistle introductions, and I also like the music, so overall a good recommendation.

all those bands aren't pure grind, but the elements that they have are enough to make them metionable

Yeah, Despised Icon is especially worth mentioning. Brutal.

They're a mix, but seem to be leaning toward grind overall.

Pretty good band, better live than on record though.

I love me some grind, but Pig Destroyer has always struck me as being totally weak. It might even have been this website that mentioned something in a review about how it's the most intense, sick, brutal thing they've ever heard or some shit, which really made me question the meaning of those words. Pig Destroyer is another one among seemingly hundreds of hyped up bands that I can't seem to escape when around the core-happy crowd that so plagues my every moment, and then mocks me when I don't enjoy the watered down saps they present me with.

I like Bolt thrower though  One of the first extreme bands I ever got into. As for them being grind, like a lot of you guys have said I'd say definitely death metal but there is some amount of grind in the early days. They just didn't take it to the full extent that Carcass or Napalm Death did before going into other territory.

Agreed that they are a mix, but I can't stand them.

Um, I can't understand why you don't enjoy Pig Destroyer, but hey, tastes are subjective.

What grind do you enjoy, anyway?

Well, early Carcass and Napalm Death for the "most universal adherance to genre enjoyment" award.

Brutal Truth and Cephalic Carnage are two favorites that spring to mind as well.
