Miss. While their songs sound cool at first, you eventually realize that they have the same problem as Cannibal Corpse, namely, that all their riffs sound pretty much the same.

Plus I really dislike the new album thanks mainly to Daron Malakian.

Another comment from some who has never heard the band! Jesus!! All their riffs are the same?? Where do you people come up with this shit? I swear, there are a TON of deaf metal fans!!

And didn't we discuss SOAD to death in another thread recently?

Well, in honor of me buying and enjoying Toxicity today, I thought I'd poll everybody on how they feel about SOAD. Judging from Toxicity, I think they're pretty good. I don't even know why they're labeled "nu-metal" since there's really nothing "nu" about them. They're basically what the Dead Kennedys would sound like if they were a metal band.

I kind of think of them as a sillier, happier, crazier Rage Against the Machine.

which is excactly the way i think of them, although, rage are better!

They sound NOTHING like Rage Against The Machine, who totally ripped off Downset, but that's a different story.

They also sound NOTHING like The Dead Kennedy's!! Sure, Serj can occassionally sound like Jello Biafra, but that's where the comparison ends! System Of A Down sound like NO OTHER BAND PAST OR PRESENT!! They are 100% original!!

No, I said all their riffs SOUND the same. I HAVE heard the band, and I have two of their records that I've listened to extensively.

Toxicity isn't bad, but I really can only stand about two songs off Mezmerize.

Just because I don't share your opinion doesn't make me deaf, dude.

Don't argue semantics. That's stupid. I can appreciate opinions, but opinions HAVE to be based on facts!! How do all the riffs SOUND the same? That comment makes no sense because it's not based in fact. You can cry opinion all you want, but if you tell me the sky is green I'm going to call you a fucking retard and that would be true.

I hate it when people go with the "opinion" angle, like that is all they need in order to say whatever nonsensical shit they want.

Okay, here's an opinion based on evidence: You are an idiot.

Anyway, all their riffs have a SIMILAR SOUND. This is a FACT. They ALL hit the same way, just like Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth. The fellows who write the music are using musical scales and cadences from Armenian folk music, and to MY ears, all their riffs sound the same due to the FACT that I am not used to their useage of Eastern scales.

I will admit that this is a personal thing, but that should be fucking obvious as I don't attempt to speak for anyone other than myself at this time.

SOAD before they released 'Mezmerize' were great. The new album is shite.
Hit overall, unless they really piss me off with 'Hypnotize'.

And that is a shitty name for an album.

I'm an idiot? That's funny. Coming from someone who claims that System Of A Down somehow have middle eastern melodies and rhythms in their music!! THAT IS 100% incorrect and it's a ridiculous claim that they have Armenian or Middle Eastern "scales" in their music! Out of 4 albums and about 50 unreleased songs, System Of A Down have about 60 seconds worth of music that even slightly resembles anything Middle Eastern. YOUR ears apparently have a waxy build-up, or you simply have no real knowledge of music.

ERGH.

Okay, you've just confirmed my thoughts that you were an idiot. Here's ONE FUCKING EXAMPLE OUT OF MANY. ONE.

The chorus to Aerials uses a Central Asian cadence of chords. I meant to say 'central asian,' not 'middle eastern.' Regardless, Armenian folk music uses those same kinds of chord cadences, and to state otherwise is being FUCKING IGNORANT.

Now stop being such a cock.

Fuck, here's another example: The fadeout to Aerials is played on duduks, which are ARMENIAN FOLK INSTRUMENTS.

Ignorant cocksucker.

For me the best example is the chorus of Needles.

Jesus! You know, metal bands use acoustic guitars, they don't sound like fucking country bands because they use acoustic guitars, do they? On Toxicity when Arto sings on a few songs like "Science" I can understand the reference to a more cultured sound, but that is it! Even the fucking band adamantly deny those comments to them having "middle eastern" sounds in their music! It's retarded.

What? You can disagree with me all you want, but when the BAND denies having those middle eastern sounds (because it's true) I'm supposed to concede to someone here?? There is very little middle eastern elements in SOAD's music! That is fact. VERY LITTLE!

Pretty much sums up my feeling about the band.

Fuck this, it's impossible to argue with you. Let's leave it at this: That's what I think, and I'm right (in that they use elements common in Armenian folk songs), and that you're being an asshole.

I mean, I give him examples, and he denies that they're examples. How much clearer can I make it?

NOTE- I'm not saying they sound like a folk band, I'm saying they use a lot of regional influences in their music which makes it all sound similar to me, because I'm not used to it.

SoaD does do that, and to state otherwise is to be incorrect.
