Q : In an interview I once read, you told a joke about Clint Torres or something, so I suppose you have a fine sense of humor; would you mind answering the following quite stupid questions? If you just don't feel like it, don't worry.
A : I invented that joke, people with a sense of humor are usually the most miserable, there are alot of dead comedians.

Yep. I think he's trying too hard to prove that hes d3pr3553d and 5uicid4l.

Yes, of course. We are going to take an opinion from a loser that types like a mall-goth child... Why is it that everyone always ASSUMES that people are always TRYING to give the impression of something to AIM towards people or to get RECOGNITION in some way? I will never truly understand that, it's always confused morons that first discover black metal making such accusations and putting words in other peoples mouths, it's pathetic. It is true, that statment was "logical" "people with a sense of humor are usually the most miserable, there are alot of dead comedians." Do you deny this fact? How the fuck did you come up with the impression that he really cares what you think? Mabey it's YOU who's the fool because you don't understand him or his art, you just assume everything like some fucking inept nerd trying to find an answer to all your delusional assumptions and "EXPOSE" them for it, because you're a loser and theres nothing to your dull boring life so you have to down-play others to make yourself seem better. It's pathetic, why can't these people use their brains and try and make sense of his words and not be just jealous of his success or motives and virtues? I understand what he said in that interview " I don't sit around and watch black metal die as a hobby anymore" it's true Black Metal is dying because of trend-cores, metal heads infecting Black Metal and "dumbing it down" with their pro-life bands, and lethargic mentallity. Fuck off and drink bleach you fools.

Are you familiar with the word sarcasm? That's what the misspelling was about.

If Malefic is so damn depressed, why doesn't he go ahead and kill himself? Some of his other statements were pretty good, but i think he came across a bit pretentious with that one.

There's no need to be flaming me.

i agree with misery, you people are tools if you are not able to hold a discussion without de-railing from the conversation. This thread is about xasthur, history of the members is not relevant what so ever. If you are going to give critiscisms let them be intelligent and constructive.

Sometimes the only reason an artist stays alive is because of his/her art. It is a personal journey/struggle that some people dont understand. I would say malefic fits this category judging from other interviews ive read.

The comment about him having a sence of humor.. and the dead comedians thing.. Give the man some fucking slack! Thats a thoughtless judgement id only expect from a shitty christian looser.

In the future when arguing something, dont make stupid comments about a black metal musician and list your favorite bands as Opeth and Dark Tranquility (Gay), why did you even bother reading the interview if you dont like the music and your gonna be a biased? Pickig at anything that stands out..

Xasthur is not my favorite band, but the guy does a good job at capturing pure (non-gothy/gay) emotions, and in the end the music matters more than the interview, so whats it fucking matter?

Hmm, welcome to the forums, I'm not a fan of Xasthur either, but I do think Opeth is gay (Dark Tranquillity is fine for melodeath IMHO). Please do post some more, I don't know what to think of you yet.

Well... I actually have quite enjoyed the Xasthur I've heard, but Malefic does seem like a bit of an imbecile in this interview IMO...

I mean c'mon... If the democrats get in in the US there'll be a revival of communism?

And then he starts droing on with his "untermensch" bollocks... worthless negroes.... worthless lesbians....

He needs to get out more... Although I suspect this would diminish his BM playing skills so perhaps not.

He needs to get out in the forest, that'd be good for him. I indeed don't like his statements either, and I have a different interpretation of sadness in music, but for the rest I have nothing against Xasthur... At least it's not a sellout band

Yes and change the band name to Forest of Xasthur, or indeed Xasthur's forest.

no band name changes required in my oppinion, unless the music radically changes.. thats when the right time to change your name. You music is your vision, your vision is your religion, and everything merges together nicely into an entity under a certain guise.
I highly respect malefic for taking his vision to the level he has in such little time, having never done one gig, and surviving of meagre record sales through his site and various distros.
What is said in an interview is irrelevant if you like the music.
The impact of the politics really depends on how patriotic you are to america.. i dont really give a shit
and its ubermench, a concept developed by f.w. neitzche, then stolen by the nazis. It has nothing to do with racism.
The quote about lesbians, and negros... well if you have not observed from your local media, being gay is trendy, and being black and in the music scene means your awesome and people look up to you (its all about the drugs n fucking hot bitches)...
How can you not hate the shit the media pumps out.... Its glorified because people are generally very stupid and respond well to herd mentality.

"its not disguisting that were constantly made to eat shit, its the fact its being forced down our throats that is." -some quote by someone (i dont have the time to look it up)

Malefics music speaks for itself.
Listen to A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors; that atmosphere cannot be faked, so whoever said he sounds like a pretentious goth, well...
listing Opeth as a favorite band then calling Malefic pretentious is a bit like calling the kettle black, or however the saying goes.
One of the best Black metal acts around, out of thousands.

Um about three or four tracks off Telepathic with the dead, which I enjoyed sufficiently to go looking for the album to buy it, but twas not in stock. :x

I also listened to some tracks that I can't remember the names of off some of their earlier works, which I didn't enjoy so much.

Since when did I say I liked the media?!

In the media we have a very shallow, fake portrayal of homosexuality that is shown as trendy.... Will and Grace for example. In romantic comedies there is always a lovable gay sidekick who offers the main characters helpful advice. However, the moment there is any indication of gay people actually being fully emancipated into society there is uproar. People can think they're being open minded by laughing with W&G, but in fact it is many of the same people who are up in arms at the prospect of gay marriages or adoptions. So no I don't think Malefic is right to say these people are treated like heroes.

And yes there are far too many hip hop stars... but remember that:

a) Until recently, one of the only white men in hip-hop was also by far the most successful

b) Throughout the 20th century we saw white copycats making money off the music of black innovators... Swing, blues, jazz, Rock and Roll... Now we are still seeing the music of innovative black musicians ripped off, but the difference is its being done by people of every colour.

If you liked that, I have to recommend A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors; It is Xasthurs pinnacle, so to speak, and far better than Telepathic With The Deceased..

I'll second that. A Gate through Bloodstained Mirrors is very good, even if it strongly evokes Burzum.

I have always found that Nocturnal Poisoning is Malefic's strongest work to date. But, we all have our own tastes.

Hmm well having downloaded a whole load of tracks from across the Xasthur board, I'm now having trouble deciding which are my favourites. :?

With this band it seems to be whatever I am listening to at the time. I picked up the Funeral of Being recently and will probably end up getting them all.
