Loving this.

I'm really starting to warm up to this record the more I listen to it. It's still overlong and a little too formulaic at times, but there is plenty to like about Book of Souls. Will be staying in my regular rotation for the next couple of weeks.

It definitely has its flaws, and that's evidentary for anyone who has experience with the mighty Maiden. However, the more I listen to it, the more I like it. No album is perfect, and people that claim that this or that album is such, are simply claiming something hugely ambiguous. There are obvious flaws with this album which I have confessed. Nevertheless, I think, in congruence with what you have said there are many positives with this album which makes it worth spending time with. As of now I give it a 78/100.

Tacked on Thou's Something in the Way cover as well so looking forward to the fifteen minute drudge at the end. Thus far, Boris and Cave In covers stand out. Album is fun and definitely more interesting than the original album.

I bet it is. I loved the original for a few months when I was about 12 but found it tired very quickly compared to certain AiC or Soundgarden recordings.

I remember listening to it when it first came out, but my brother was always way more into STP and AiC in his youth. During middle school, I introduced Nirvana to my best friend and he kinda went overboard with it. Every so often I'll get the itch to fire up Bleach and just become kinda bored with it. However, Cave In performing Breed, Thou screaming 'disgrace the family name' in Even In His Youth, Kylesa nearly slowing Come As You Are down to a stop. There are some real great moments on the album.

Alright, I will give it a listen. Hated what that one band did with Smells Like Teen Spirit, but Thou, Boris, Cave In etc., were very good, as you said. Kylesa was my favorite though, Come As You Are was my favorite track on the original, and slowing it down was the right move.

It's cool that you checked some of it out. Young Widows is the band that covered Teen Spirit and I normally love them, but it was a little too distorted for me to enjoy. Don't let that deter you from checking out their album In and Out of Youth if you're into some down tempo rock. The album as a whole was a nice way of polishing off the ol' tunes that I used to love. Lounge Act was a song that I never really loved, but I do appreciate Touche Amore's touch being added to it. And I really just love Thou's willingness to cover 90s stuff. Their rendition of Terrible Lie on their last split with The Body was badass.
