True Detective.

Two episodes in. Very dark. Quite liking it so far. Wasn't in the mood to watch more of it. Maybe some other time. Any thoughts on the series?

I would filed that under TV. Thought the ending was awful, but loved the ride. Episode 4 is the best one, and the ending of episode 4 deserved several awards.

My mistake. Thought it was the T.V. thread and already a sticky. Look forward to seeing the aforementioned episode.

Hope you liked it is much as I did. If it doesn't, you should probably skip the rest of the series, because it will never get as good as that moment again.

Finally got around to watching Snowpiercer. A solid, post-apocalyptic action romp with some notable performances by hero Chris Evans and villainess Tilda Swinton. Evans channels gritty Christian Bale here but manages to be both intense and empathetic, while Swinton pretty much has elderly, eccentric British woman down to an exact science. Actually, all the villains were terrific in this one with Swinton's henchmen being especially venomous. The pay-off at the end was fairly predictable but the bloody slog by Evans and Company to the front of the train was so well-paced and nicely executed that the 2+ hours went by in a flash. Worthy viewing for all action junkies.

Mad Max - Fury Road - terrific, although I did spend the first thirty minutes or so wondering what the fuck I'd walked into. Action scenes were some of the best this year though.

I really enjoyed this as well. Absolute insanity from beginning to end. Maybe the best of the whole Mad Max franchise. Loved the god-king angle for the main baddie Imperaton Joe which I felt really gave legs to the gleeful madness of his War Boys. Was also very impressed with Theron's turn as Furiosa, essentially Max's female counterpart, who gives emotional depth and strength to a character that could have easily turned into a tough girl cliche. Would definitely go to the theater and see this again.

Am actually considering this too, heh. Think it would lend itself well to a second viewing, particularly if I finally watch the first films!

Big Trouble in Little China - forgot how much I loved this, although it's probably pretty racist if you're Chinese. Still, fantastically entertaining film, with a sense of humour that's held up. Third-best Carpenter, behind only The Thing & Halloween?

Yes, but with Escape From New York not too far behind. They Live also deserves a shout.

Caught the premier of Antman last Friday and it was really a lot of fun. Credit to director Peyton Reed who knew exactly what he was trying to do with this kind of movie and did it very well. There are a few questionable scenes plot-wise, but they are largely forgettable amid the stream of spectacular special effects, fun dialogue and the ever affable snark of Paul Ruud. Marvel Films kicking DC in the teeth right now and will more than likely continue to do so. The trailers for Dawn of Justice give little reason to think otherwise.

Yeah, Dawn of Justice trailer seems really bad.

Watched Avengers: Age of Ultron last night. It was alright, but paced rather poorly and had a few too many gimmick shots.

Also watched Lawless the other night and as a person who doesn't mind Nick Cave's writing, I don't know if it was because I couldn't hear it very well, but I seriously had no idea what was going on, besides I should root for Shia Lebouef and Tom Hardy and everyone else is bad.

Watched the first Terminator, something I haven't done since I was a kid. That was enjoyable.

Cave and director John Hillcoat had done such a fantastic job on The Proposition that I was expecting so much more than what Lawless delivered on. Aside from the great Guy Pierce, there was really nothing that memorable about it. I had to subtitle nearly every scene with Tom Hardy who mumbled like a half-wit through the majority of the movie.

I'm gonna check out Proposition.

Watched The Wolverine last night. I think that was worse than the other Wolverine film, which is saying something. It makes it all the more surprising that Days of Future Past was like actually good and what not.

Also got about halfway through Maggie. I love me some ponderous, slow-burning zombie flicks, but unsure of what to make of it so far.

Same, I don't really care for them anymore. I did just watching Going Clear, the Scientology documentary though. Interesting to say the least.

It's strange... I used to love movies. Now, when one begins, especially when I'm at the theater watching with a friend, which doesn't happen very often anyway, no matter how good the movie is, getting out of there is my highest goal. Maybe I need to find new ground for my movie taste, but I would much rather buy music and books than buy movies. My attitude was quite different from how it was a few years back. Things change, so do human beings.

That's how I've felt ever since I really started listening to music all of the time as a young teenager. I've watched some movies, and don't mind watching one once in a while, but when you know it's not real it kind of ruins it for me, to be honest. I remember watching one drama/crime movie a couple months ago and being into it when we had free HBO, but other than that I find movies to be pretty boring most of the time.
