Eager to watch Interstellar. Christopher Nolan is an outstanding director. Also Exodus looks phenomenal. Can't wait for that to be realsed. Christian Bale is stellar.

Not seen a single review of Interstellar that's made me want to see it, honestly. Sounds overblown and overlong, coasting on MM's charm more than anything...

Finally saw the remake of Robocop since it was on Netflix. Ugh, Keaton and Oldman aside. Will have to rewatch the original to erase the memory!

^^

Interstellar, well, it's a Nolan movie. you're blown away after it and it takes a while before you can think about it with a clear head, and then the inconsistencies start popping up. that said, it's still a great movie, visually stunning, and nowhere near as retarded as The Dark Knight Rises. i would definitely recommend watching it.

Ending up liking Interstellar in the end, despite rolling my eyes at a few bits. Hardcore sci-fi being back in fashion is rather nice...

Also watched recently, that I can remember:

New Hunger Games - Not bad, bit light on action but it sets up the second part nicely. Natalie Dormer! <3

Rush - excellent, despite not really being a F1 fan. Daniel Bruhl was outstanding. Natalie Dormer! <3

Watched Filth, it was kinda fun, not as seedy and awful as the book and they completely neutered the ending. I feel like it would have been better if the character was entirely wretched and irredeemable, but I guess people wouldn't pay money for that.

The Haunted Palace. A film based on an Edgar Allen Poe poem that was rewritten as a story by HP Lovecraft starring Vincent Price!?!? It is everything I've ever wanted.

Dr. Phibes is easily the worst Vincent Price film ever. Utter garbage. Possibly because he was supposed to have suffered an accident that led him to lose his voice. Without Price's voice, the allure of his movies sorta dissipates.

Pit and the Pendulum was a decent but not great Vincent Price film, though.

Also watched Killing Them Softly. For a movie starring Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini as hitmen that was rubbish. Ray Liotta as not a badass is kinda awkward to watch.

Finally watched Guardians of the Galaxy and I thoroughly enjoyed that. The second Thor film much less so. That plot did nothing for me.

Recently watched Miyazaki's last film The Wind Rises. What can I say? The man just makes great films and this one is no different. Lacks the cool fantasy elements of his other flicks but the quality of story remains as good as ever. The English voice cast is excellent as well and quite possibly the best of any Studio Ghibli film yet released. Definitely worth your time.

Recently:

Foxcatcher - Excellent. Carrell is gripping (especially once you've researched the real du Pont) but Tatum is a revelation too.
Birdman - Excellent again. Odd but funny and interesting. Loved Michael Keaton. Andrea Riseborough is too hot.
American Sniper - Really enjoyed this. Whatever your thoughts on the Iraq war, it's a powerful look through the eyes of a soldier, Bradley Cooper is terrific. Didn't find the patriotism as cloying as some have claimed, perhaps because I'm a foreigner.
Nosferatu the Vampyre - Wow. First time I've seen this, beautiful and eerie. What a goddamn genius Kinski was (& Herzog is) his count is utterly inhuman, like a Mutiilation album come to life.

:dio: :dio: Glad you got around to this one. Speaking of metal albums, did you also get a Negura Bunget OM vibe on the approach to Dracula's castle? The castle itself was manical, the best castle in any Dracula film I had seen.

It really was a great castle! I'd have to watch it again to look for NB vibes though, could have made black metal music videos out of any scenes (the boat, the rats, etc etc) from Marduk to Mayhem.

Went to see Inherent Vice yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. Fans of druggy complicated 70s detective stories should get on it.

Tatum seems pretty cool. he's great in Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street. Foxcatcher souns great but not great enough for me to bother seeing it in the cinema.

Birdman looks amazing... was going to watch it last week but the other party cancelled.

recently saw:
Big Hero 6 - loved it. it's fucking gorgeous too.
Leviathan - SLOW. AS. FUCK. this is almost arthouse territory. fuuuuuuuuuuuuck me it was so slow.

in case you missed it, it was nominated for best foreign picture at the oscars. it's fucking brilliant, just go and fucking watch it already.

I had no idea what Big Hero 6 was, but I enjoyed it. The show suffered from really awful pacing, which I assume was due to being a remake of an Asian film, but otherwise it was great. It was super cute/fun as long as you don't take it to serious. A fun surprise.

/\ On my list to see, the trailer looked fun.

All is Lost - Robert Redford trying to survive on a boat. Like Cast Away but without the island, very little dialogue, one man cast. Enjoyed it.
