Watched the original Cat People last weekend. Really fabulous production especially with such a small budget. More a psychological thriller than a horror film in spite of it's influence on the latter genre. It's a little slow to start but the movie just drips with dread and dark atmosphere especially leading into the climax. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Big Halloween party/horror movie binge-athon coming up in a couple weeks. Gonna be a lot of fun.

saw Boogie Nights. pretty cool, incredible performance from Mark Wahlberg. so many familiar faces, it was cool to watch it before seeing the cast. it does stretch a bit, at two and a half hours i couldn't watch it all in one sitting.

cool references to Goodfellas and La Haine.

it's a cool movie but it's just so contrived. i mean magneto pretty much showed that holy shit, mutants are really dangerous you guys. and mystique could've killed trask quite easily, no? and holy shit, wolverine is fucking ripped.

still, a good fun movie of course. the portal bits were pretty cool.

I still have only seen bits and pieces of Future Past. A little stiff from what I saw but it looks fun. Wished they would have just created another mutant instead of giving Kitty Pryde weird psychic projection powers.

Brilliant was perhaps the wrong word, but I'm willing to use it in this context as the movie was entertaining as fuck.

And yes, Huge Jacked-man looks ridiculous.

Jackman looks great from the waist up, but the dude has some damn chicken legs.

Pretty much guarantees Wolverine will always be wearing pants. He's got a 400 lb deadlift though, so maybe he just has a hard time building mass on his lower body.

Michelle Monaghan was just in True Detective, surely you got far enough in that to notice? Downey plays that role often yes, but I can't dislike him because he made that otherwise bad Tropic Thunder quite good.

To be fair, a 400lb deadlift isn't particularly impressive when you're that size, barring any injuries of course. His legs look ridiculous, and seems to be neglected as far as training goes.

Recently watched Thor: The Dark World (awful) and The Conjuring (even worse). Is it really that hard to get horror or superhero films right?

Compared to most modern horror movies, I thought The Conjuring was pretty good.

I thought it suffered from the same problems as most other modern horror films. The movie tries to force too many scares at the expense of suspense. Good horror films build the tension and engage the audience making the scares more frightening. By cramming in so many there's no suspense and things become predictable lessening the impact.
