Really skeptical about the upcoming Sin City movie. The previews have looked awful so far but the first one was so damn good. Hopefully Frank Miller's behind the camera prescence will be as small as it was the first time.

Yeah, kind of divided on it actually. On one hand I'm really eager to see if it can even match its predecessor, and on the other I'm skeptical because of the previews.

I really enjoyed the newest X-men flick.

I thought the first Sin City was utter garbage, so at least my expectations are tempered.

I thought Rodriguez did a great job adapting the comics to the screen. A large portion of Miller's dialogue is totally intact, the movie looked fucking great and Mickey Rourke was born to play Marv. Unfortunately, the success of this movie led to Miller getting the job of writing and directing The Spirit, which is about as god awful a movie as you'll ever see. Frank Miller was once the gold standard for comics but turned into a complete hack during the mid-90's and hasn't written anything worthwhile since. Hopefully the film adaptation didn't turn off potential readers from picking up Will Eisner's original Spirit run as it's really a lot of fun.

I liked the first Sin City but I was also sixteen, so I'm no longer its target market.

I was past 30 and still liked it. It's not about age, it's about the quality of the movie.

25 here and lover of everything comic and fantasy related. For me, books, fantasy and movies are about entertainment. Not emotional experiences and the likes. Movies based on that shallow stuff are thus straight up my alley.

Elysium - too much socialism (seriously, I've listened to more right-wing Napalm Death albums) and not enough bros in robot suits kicking shit out of each other.

True Grit (2010) - surprisingly great remake of the John Wayne classic. Solid cast, especially Jeff Bridges who comes about as close as anyone could to JW-esque charisma. The darker tone helps set it aside from the original, too.

Drinking Buddies - thought it'd be funny and it wasn't but it was very good so that makes up for it

I actually enjoyed this version much more than the original. The acting is just head and shoulders above Duke and company.

Watched the three Harold & Kumar movies, again. The first is the best, the second isn't too bad (cockmeat sandwich!), the third mainly sucks but still provides good laughs.

Been watching some Vincent Price with the old lady recently, tonight Laura and the other night Tales of Terror. Also watched Inception last night. She had never seen it so I figured we should put the time into it.

saw X-Men Days of Future Past, it's cool, the portal scenes were nice, Portal 2 is the best game ever.

also saw A Million Ways to Die in the West, really funny in the first half but completely loses steam for the second half.

finally, saw The Fault in Our Stars, really liked it. at work everyone said it's gay. you know, gay as in twilight or the notebook or whatever. is it really perceived that way?

The Fault in Our Stars is a terrible terrible book at least. I will never see the movie.

Watched the latest Wolverine-movie and The Hulk (anno 2003) the other day.

Scream Factory is releasing the Complete Director's Cut of Nightbreed on Oct. 28th. Forty minutes of lost footage is being remastered and edited into the movie which Barker himself has approved. Kudos to these guys who kept digging for the reels long after everyone, including Clive, thought a true Director's Cut was a lost cause. Nice to see a company that shows the horror genre some real love. This will be a first day purchase for me.

Gone Girl - excellent thriller, although it gets a bit ridiculous at moments. Gripping plot, though, especially with the first and biggest twist, which leaves you pretty desperate to see where it goes. When did Ben Affleck become a terrific actor? He was borderline embarrassing in Goodwill Hunting etc. Rosamund Pike is the standout, though a very creepy Barney Stinson comes close.

i'll definitely catch that at the cinema when it gets here!

La Haine: pretty great, although i was disappointed after all the hype it got from my friends.

The Inbetweeners 2: hilarious, just like the first. some dead moments but also many lols.

typically i watch 1 or 2 movies per week, on friday night and on saturday after lunch. this week i think it'll be Boogie Nights and Hard Boiled. let's see.
