Oh absolutely, but charm isn't something I associated much with TG's films! Robin Williams had such a warmth to his performances, he was truly one of the greats.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Still packed on a Sunday weeks after release...

It was good! Just never sat so far away from the screen before. Also my first full 3D movie, so that's something as well.

Lucy - like if the French made an XMen film.

Well that doesn't sound very good to me.

It was alright, but pretty lightweight, one car sequence aside.

American Hustle - not bad, but felt a bit poorly held together, like a bad imitation of a better film. Clearly very Scorsese-influenced but not a patch on him. Performances were good though.

Directed by Luc Besson... Never a good sign.

All I'm saying is I'm yet to see a Luc Besson movie that's not a crap-fest. Ok, Leon is not too bad and Le Dernier Combat was quite an interesting, albeit amateurish, little film. Other than that, the man ruins everything he touches.
Ho, and since when do you have to be a director to be a critic? That just plain nonsense.

Was just a question.

I've directed a good 40-50 films. Don't ask me the name of any of them though.

I can't remember the exact title of my most recent film, but you can find it by searching tags "anal explosion" and "Steve's mom".

Agreed with you on Besson. I liked Leon, but that is about it.

Zad I had heard that American Hustle was basically a big mess, despite the good performances, good to see you agreed, because I wasn't that interested in watching it.

Why not? Surely all those AVN nominations must make you swell with pride.

Watched the new Ninja Turtles doc and came away wanting more. "The First 10 Years" would have been a much more appropriate title than the "Definitive History" tag as it pretty much stops with the '92 Broadway play and then glances over the remainder of the franchise. While there is some great stuff on the making of the first movie and the genesis of the toy line and original animated series, this could have been so much more complete. Still, it's a well made and entertaining doc that is worth a rent for any TMNT fan.

Alien - Too bad the alien moving was a bit cheesy because everything else was way cool.

some of the colourful brazilian slang is lost in translation, but it's still a fine movie. for example, the character knockout ned is mané galinha (galinha = chicken), because in brazil that means a guy who gets lots of girls; a nobody/poor person is called "pé de chinelo", or "sandal-foot". people who deliver drugs are called aviãozinho (little airplane) or vapor. stuff like that.

there's also Tropa de Elite/Elite Squad (plus the sequel, which i haven't seen yet), similar favela/drug tale but told from the police point of view. there's an attempt to show how different things can be a part of the problem (poverty, gangs, corruption, the middle class, police) but it handles it a bit clumsily. it also sort of condones the BOPE elite police's extremely violent practises, but if you can let that slide it's pretty entertaining.

In superhero/comic mode. Just watched all the X-men movies as well as the three first Transformer movies.
