I don't think anybody is arguing against that. All I am saying is that Tankard is still thrashing as good today as they did 30 years ago.

The difference being that Tankard never took any risk, they're like the AC/DC of thrash metal. I prefer bands that display some kind of evolution. Plus, Tankard's lyrics are pretty idiotic.

The Tankard?

The 90's was a weird time.

I must admit that I've never listened to Tankwart but doing a covers album hardly qualifies as evolution.

Tankard has always been doing their thing, and I am actually very okay with that. You will always get quality thrash metal from them no matter what. When I tire of looking for new thrash bands I always keep coming back to Tankard and a few other bands where I know that I will get what I expect and I always enjoy it. They are not in my top 3, hell, they are not even in my top 5, but they've been consistent, did their thing a 100% and they're always enjoyable to put on.

As for the lyrics, yes they are retarded, but come on, Tankard was always about having fun and getting wasted. As in old-school leather jackets, bullet-belts, cigarette, beer-booze-fun-and-dirty kind of wasted. Not weed-smoking, wine-sipping, wannabe tight-jeans-glasses-without-actual-glasses-in-them-wearing, long-hair, lives-with-mom, listens-to-hardcore, hipster-wasted.

Top 5 thrashers:

1. Kreator (Germany's finest metal export)
2. Sepultura (Max Cav era is damn near untouchable)
3. Overkill (Still going strong)
4. Slayer (in spite of recent mediocrity)
5. Megadeth (see above)

Honorable mention: Sacrifice (Put out more albums, you bastards!)

Overkill
Kreator
Destruction
Tankard
Interchangeable: Sodom, Dark Angel, Exumer, Annihilator (sue me), Coroner, Sabbat, Holy Terror, Vio-Lence, Flotsam & Jetsam

All depends on what album tickles my fancy on what day.

Mille was experimenting with different styles at the time and the results were admittedly not up to their usual standard. As Wally said, the 90's were a weird time. It did show that the band weren't slaves to convention and were willing to take some chances with their music. They got back on track with Violent Revolution and have been putting out solid releases ever since. Still tops for me in spite of the mid-90's dip in quality.

Myself as well. I hope they don't ever "evolve." It would kill the spirit of the band. Tankard personify all the fun aspects of thrash and really just metal in general. Nothing artistic or profound about them at all and that's a good thing. Plenty of other self-important assholes out there have that market cornered.

Since you mentioned it, I really hate what hardcore has become since it's appropriation by the skinny jeans crowd. All of the wild eyed aggression and "fuck you" attitude that permeated the old scene has been either watered down or neutered entirely by the PC new breed. It wasn't always hipster trash, my man.

Gimme Circle Jerks, gimme Black Flag, gimme Bad Brains, gimme Sick of it All, Agnostic Front, Madball. HARDCORE!

Yeah, I don't mind hardcore, I even played guitar in a hardcore band once (turned metalcore after I left, a shame), but it's the scene and the new-era hardcore kiddies that are nauseating.

Social and political issues in a Tankard album! Well, it looks like the boys might have sobered up just a tiny bit.

Gerre's developed an impressive beer belly btw.
