The opening episode of Season 4 of GOT was amazing, i can't wait to see what happens next...I'm loving the Hound/Arya combo, so awesome. They are taking Arya in a mighty dark direction this season methinks.

The Hound/Arya scenes and the Tyrion/Sansa scenes are the only ones I remember from the episode, sadly.

I expect next week to be more memorable.

It wasn't a *bad* episode - thought it was a great one until NFH mentioned that only Arya / Hound and Tyrion were memorable, and I sadly had to agree (although I liked Prince Oberyn) - what was up with the random scarred cannibals? As awesome as Arya/Hound are, there have been better episodes. But yes Noods, watch it from the beginning, if you loved this episode you'll love the whole thing.

Racing through Breaking Bad at the moment (through 27 eps), and it deserves the hype. The only downside is it is making the new seasons of Mad Men and (especially) GoT look rather weak by comparison.

GoT these season (less so in episode 2) is a lot of filler, because they really don't have much ground from the book to cover in the 10 episodes they have. In episode 3 more than half of the stuff was not even from the book. Now this is usually fine when they are using good actors like Charles Dance or Stephen Dillane but I think it drags when they aren't.

I thought BB was better in 3,4,5 than seasons 1 and 2, which is pretty rare for TV. It should definitely stand the test of time. Sad that I missed all the BB discussion as it was airing in this thread, and even the Buffy (Buffy seasons 5+6 were excellent) and Supernatural discussions: you guys were/are a pretty damn literate TV bunch.

I thought BB really took off in the final season, where it had been slightly slow at times previously. And I quite want to rewatch Buffy, even though I have a mile-long list of tv shows to watch... so little time.

Yes, BB in 3 and 4 really had to get to the second half of the season to get interesting. I suppose season 5 is probably gonna remain in people's minds the longest as it focuses on White's empire: Part A can be seen as the 'rise' and part B as the 'fall'.

Buffy really shocked me with its ability to hit heavy themes in a seemingly 'light' show. If trapt ever comes back I'd like to go really in depth on it, or if you do rewatch be sure to update me. Season 6 takes some major risks and really challenges the viewers' expectations of what an initially episodic, hero-based show could transform into.

Been watching a lot of Supernatural recently, semi caught up on GoT, and always down to chat Buffy, albeit not one of the super fans that know everything about everything about it.

Can't wait for Sons of Anarchy in the fall. I kinda liked the way that the second half of the Walking Dead season turned out. That scene with Rick was brutal.

Roommate has been trying to convince me to watch Vikings and Arrow. Girlfriend watches a lot of Housewives. Atlanta is my favorite batch.

I liked, but not loved Supernatural season 3, is there a discernible peak to the show you'd recommend? RE: GoT, I expected the first half of this season to be super boring, but I am hopeful the pace picks up, as it should based on the book/plot summaries for the second half.

On Buffy I've just noticed a real divide among the fanbase for earlier seasons (2/3 mainly) versus later seasons (5/6), meanwhile there seems to be a consensus that 1,4, and 7 have severe storyline flaws. I greatly preferred the latter seasons (and hey Trachtenberg was still underage so that wasn't the reason either...) but a number of early season fans despise season 6, in particular, as being too 'depressing'.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)
They seem to think when Buffy is brought back from the dead she should smile, crack a joke, and continue happily saving the world, like the infamous Buffybot would. Season 6 isn't perfect, but I loved how it challenged the audience's expectations about what a 'superhero' show should be all about: seeing a bunch of enraged fans whine about how 'their Buffy' shouldn't feel depressed after being dragged out of heaven made me wonder if people naturally watch a superhero show hoping for the character's very humanity to be denied.

I thought season 5 (her sacrifice) and season 6 (the fallout from her sacrifice unjustly undone) complimented each other as well as any television show I've ever seen.

I'm verrry late to the party but Always sunny in Philadelphia the past 5 episodes I've seen have made me laugh really hard.

last episode of GoT kind of sucked, save for Tyrion's meltdown/rant. i mean him mouthing off like that doesn't quite make him look like a manipulative genius but still, you watch him and you kind of feel he deserved the right to tell everyone to go fuck themselves.

all the "people walking ominously" and "people talking really slowly" is getting super annoying, it's like watching a crappy play or something.

At least one thing happened. The plot point of the Iron Bank of Braavos siding with Stannis figures to be important for quite a while. But I'm not sure why they bothered with that Greyjoy stuff, which seemed oddly discontinuous to book readers...oh right, it was to kill time. All the people walking around ominously and people talking really slowly is a common theme because they have more show than they have story.

Spoilers suggest the next episode will be another snoozefest, while eps 8-10 will finally give us a run of stuff happening in episodes! Hint: Episode 9 is directed by the same director that did the Blackwater episode.

indeed. i think this will be the pace for a while, might even get worse as more stuff from books 4 and 5 makes gets the TV treatment. well spotted on Episode 9!

i didn't mind the Ironborn bit, i'm ok with violence as filler, not ok with scenes where almost nothing of consequence is said. like wtf, i don't care for yet another interaction where they discuss Varys's penis. violence is stupid but awesome, scenes like that are stupid and come off as pretentious.

Glad you brought this up Azrael, that scene was totally unnecessary. How many character establishment scenes do we need of Varys and Littlefinger as obsessed with power? Even the daftest show watchers would have figured this out by season 2.

exactly!

to fill in the comedy slot now that community (), parks & rec and HIMYM are over/preparing the next season, i started watching Friends With Better Lives and Brooklyn 9-9.

FWBL is meh. overuse of the soundtrack. hashtags in the the opening credits are lame. short guy from Entourage isn't very good. that girl who jokes a lot is good for a change.

Brooklyn 9-9 saw 1 episode and liked it a lot. let's see where it goes.

also i'm on episode 7 or 8 of The Wire season 5. what an awesome show.

Congrats to you! Sadly, you are almost finished though, so prepare for the downtrodden feeling I just had upon finishing Breaking Bad.

Season 3 of The Wire might just be my favorite season of TV ever.

actually i liked season 1 the most so far. season 4 after that, the schools and all.

s2 was the worst. i mean still very good but i hated the way they opened it. it was every bit as hard to get to grips with at the start as the first season, totally unnecessary, even if it did paint a good picture of police politics.
