This is going to sound strange, but I've listened to Grand Magus and never felt like it got me. The stranger thing is that I'm compelled to find the greatness because of JB's vocal performance on Ayreon's latest opus. I can't even put into words how Ayreon's Theory of Everything affected me. Let's just say that album has deeply moved me. I feel like every vocal performance by every vocalist on that album is one of the strongest performances they have ever done. It's an emotional masterpiece and a compelling story. It helped me notice the nuances and particular flare that each vocalist is capable of when given a emotionally griping part to play. I would have never known that Cristina Scabbia could be so emotive. Basically, Ayreon's Theory of Everything is so good that I will be digging deeper into the bands of the guest musicians on that album. This includes Grand Magus, Lacuna Coil, Ancient Bards, Tarot, and yes even Asia and Toehider. I'm convinced I will like Grand Magus now purely because of JB's performance on The Theory of Everything.

This album is easily the best they've done in some time. I would probably rate it about 80/100. Some real killers on here.
