Obviously there is something in his material that speaks to some people; others, apparently not. As for his personal worldview... that's none of my concern, as it has no impact on my life.

My comment was very simple: It's a shame people support this guy. I can dig on just liking the music, you know. The music is separate from most of his actions, and while I don't care for it I don't care that people dig it. And yeah, that is "supporting him," in a way, I get that.

But people the put Varg, the man, up on a pedestal, and that's what I don't get. It's like no one finds that odd; he was a black-metal guy so all his bullshit fit the mold and that allows people to look past the racism, the church burning, the murder. I've heard very few people say, "Well, I like Burzum, but Varg is a fucking scumbag."

I like the majority of what Burzum has released and find Varg a fascinating guy. This doesn't mean I'm down with the Vargsmal (which I read once, in a very bored mood) or appreciate his Timothy Treadmill impression here. You can discuss nutters without disclaimers about them being nutters - there's a clear line between 'Varg is an interesting musician' and 'Varg is an interesting musician and he's totes right about Jews and murder is good'. Really don't think anyone here actually doesn't think Varg is a fucking scumbag, and I've never seen anyone put him on a pedestal for reasons outside music.

Double standards at play, really, considering you don't hear of people boycotting Aborym for Faust's murder or even mention the guy from Absurd, Mobius. Even murderous, bigoted dickheads can move on...
