^That's totally cool. It sounds classic while also having a very retro vibe to it a la Valkyrie. That seems like a weird description: how can they be retro in a derived way if they were an original, but new retro stuff has a distinct type of production that these guys are nailing while simply not shaming their past efforts. If the other nine or so tracks are that great, I'll approve.

I'll need to give a listen when I'm home tonight. I'm a sucker for an old band releasing a new album.

I am distraught.
http://www.lunaraurora.de/

Dear friends,
it has always been clear that also LUNAR AURORA will end some day. And this autumn we felt that it is time to lay the band to rest. We came to that decision for various reasons, the two following may be the most significant. On one hand our imaginations of future musical projects are difficult to reconcile with LUNAR AURORA, on the other hand we feel that LUNAR AURORA is out of tune with these times. We have never been people that speechify, so we won't make a big deal out of that, either.

It have been 18 great years and for that we want to say a big "THANK YOU!" to the people who have been with us during those years. Especially the fans as well as the bands we played with or did projects with. Not to forget the magazines, distributors, concert promoters, without whom publicity would not have been possible. Our label partners Frank Stöver, Andreas Lacher and Tom Wahl we owe deep thankfulness for their energy and trust.

With deep gratefulness we think of our bandmates Sindar, Nathaniel, Profanatitas, Biil, Skoarth and Bernhard Klepper for all they did for LUNAR AURORA with great dedication.

Although there won't be a new LUNAR AURORA album anymore, we will make sure that the long out of stock albums "... of stargates...", "Elixir of Sorrow" and "A haudiga Fluag" will be available through COLD DIMENSIONS within the next 1-2 years.

Until we meet again...

What a waste of time and if the lecturers are there on University sponsored trips, money.

Pseudo-intellectualism seems to be so fashionable these days. No wonder the West is losing it's edge to Asia.

How is it a waste of time? How are papers about gender inequality, subcultural deviance, modernist aesthetics, mythology, technological mediation, transnational cultures a waste of time? You can see the program here: http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/popc/page128702.html These are all standard panel topics when it comes to the humanities; philosophy, sociology, literature, except they are reading heavy metal and not Victorian literature, for example, as the primary text.

Even a paper analyzing kiwis.

dead1 seems like the type who thinks humanities are a waste of time.

That said I'd probably rather stab myself in the eye than go to these talks:

Quote:
A League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?: Geekdom, Virtuosity and the Relative ‘Un-marking’ of Race in On-line Progressive-Metal Fandom Threads
Andy Brown - Bath Spa University, UK
Edge of Insanity: Tony MacAlpine and Virtuosity as Transcendence
Chair: Kevin Fellezs - Columbia University, USA

and most of it seems to be about metal culture rather than metal music. Boring. WHERE'S MY MUSIC THEORY.

Seriously! I was super un-impressed by the program itself, but the fact that it exists at all was kinda awesome. My friend and I have two really awesome papers, mine on Panopticon and his on Finnish folk metal, but we got rejected. I met the guy who presented on WITTR the week before the conference and he was kinda boring. He was looking at how American spirituality gets taken up in USBM, looking at bands like Wolves and Blood of the Black Owl. Boring indeed. A lady who edits a journal of black metal and theory sent me her paper on Emperor's lo-fi production on the demo and she is pretty solid, way less pretentious than that stuff that followed Hendrix's manifesto (http://www.amazon.com/Helvete-Journal-B ... tal+theory). Oh, and the guy who was the keynote, Robert Walser, his book Running with the Devil is some amazing music theory and I attempt to follow his lead albeit not knowing music theory worth shit. I may have to learn how to play the guitar just to keep writing about this shit.

That line doesn't even make sense. I mean, maybe if you set up a Western humanities versus Asian hard science dichotomy I'd listen to the rest of your argument, but far too much to ask I guess.

And ok, I figured the conference to be leftist/USA dominated, but it was a cool idea nonetheless, and at least one woman wrote about Emperor.

How was that one?

No idea, but I imagine most of these people are totally down with getting e-mailed about their papers.

There is wisdom in your comment.

Just came home to it.

A little over long, Rubin salvaged Ozzy's vocals to a point, Iommi and Geezer are spot-on, but I don't know if that is enough to salvage the entire song, even if the end really tries to.

A bit too overlong in my opinion. It didn't really go anywhere.

Still I think Rubin's done wonders, especially with Ozzy's voice.

I need to hear it again as I was listening on my phone soeaker, but I do agree it is a little long and not much happens. But the ending is alright.

Metallica album out in 2015?

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?m ... mID=189313

Quote:
Asked when fans can expect to hear a new METALLICA album, Ulrich said: "It would surprise me if the next full-length METALLICA record would come out before 2015. It takes us awhile to make records, and we're also so busy with so many other things. But we'll get around to it eventually."

It's truly ridiculous that it takes them 7 years to come out with an album.

Clearly their heart isn't in it anymore.

Unfortunately same seems to apply to Iron Maiden as well.
