what a dickhead

saw episode 5 of the first season of Boardwalk Empire. finally invested in the show. HBO takes a while i guess. it's the first HBO show for me except for Game of Thrones, but as a huge fan of the books i was already pre-hooked, so it doesn't count.

Yeah, I'm three full seasons into Boardwalk Empire, and still not invested into the show. But HBO does take a while, I guess.

It does? Most HBO shows are pretty damn good from the get go. Except for the shitty ones. Boardwalk Empire, etc..

I think the Wire took about 5 episodes to be properly set up.

Otherwise agreed.

I just started The Wire this week and it had me hooked in two episodes. By the fifth episode, I wasn't falling in love with the show as much as I was falling in love with Omar. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the cop procedural.

Wait til you get to season 3 and 4. If you're not in love with it then, stop trying.

Well, Season 1 is definitely the most 'cop procedural' in feel, after that, different elements are added. Season 3, for me, being the high point.

Good man. One of the greatest shows ever....I should rewatch the series sometime.

I'm hooked so I'll get there soon probably.

Giving this one a shot, haven't formed an opinion yet though.

Really like the idea of an early 80s period piece.

Just started last night and I missed it. I'd be curious to know if the History Channel can pull it off. I guess it's a matter of who does the production and what not. Honestly, hadn't heard about it till a commercial I saw last night.

The Following?
A friend has been watching it and she has stuck with it. She says its good and pretty intense for being on FOX. I think it's a positive sign that she is surprised that it is on basic cable given the content and not something like Showtime...

That's my biggest hesitation with shows on basic cable, they are too watered down for the idiots. But The Following does look pretty cool, and Kevin Bacon is alright.

Know anything about Arrow?

Apparently it is not as watered down as you would expect. And I do heart me some Kevin Bacon.

I watched the first two episodes and didn't like it. It screams dramatized superhero story kinda like Smallville did for me. I don't know if that makes sense, but I wanted action in my comic book tales and they don't seem to deliver. Arrow seems faster than Smallville was in terms of getting to the dirt, but it always seems as more behind the scenes intrigue than crime fighting for me. A friend watches it, but she isn't the most discerning television viewer. I catch the last ten minutes or so each week before Supernatural and it doesn't every make me want to tune in earlier.

Watch the first episode of The Following and you will probably not want to see any more. They use every single cliché available. My girlfriend and I were laughing so hard when they call up Bacon's character and tell him to come back to work because there's been a murder or whatever, "I'm not a cop anymore" then he proceeds to pour vodka into a water bottle, and eventually goes back to work.

Plus, the bad guy has a "following" which means, EVERYONE can be working for the bad guy, especially if it's super convenient for the bad guy. Lame, just lame.

enjoying Boardwalk Empire. will probably start Sopranos or The Wire this week.

comedy-wise, i can't watch Arrested Development because all my usual streaming websites are working like shit. i started Parks & Rec but the first two episodes are pretty boring. i read that season 2 is much better, can i just skip season 1?

Skip it if you have to, but ultimately stick with the show because it gets fucking good. Might be worth trudging through the first season to get all the relationships/character development, but it's up to you I guess.

yeah... Community's first few episodes were vital to get to know the characters so that the later, more surreal episodes could work, so i'll watch the whole thing.

That. I consider the first season one of the worst things ever. But now I love the show and you'll figure the characters out if you skip it, but there's no use. Make it easy on yourself and stick with it. It's only like two hours worth, I think.

And The Wire is so fucking good, I'm almost through season 2.
