Started playing Far Cry 3 yesterday and it is a great game. Unfortunately, there is no way to turn off the objective marker, so whenever you go on a mission, the only thing you end up looking at is the marker. In a game where exploration is so important, it is retarded to force the player to have a fucking arrow that constantly points in the right direction.

I'm playing an exciting quest now where you're supposed to explore an underwater cave, but the objective marker really ruins the immersion. Ubisoft are supposedly going to release a patch that gives the option to remove most HUD elements. I'm going to wait until it is released before I continue playing, feels like I'm ruining a pretty cool gaming experience otherwise.

I love when you can go to a pirate base and release a caged animal like a tiger and let the animal have at them and get the 1500 XP points :dio:

Know what you mean re the objective marker, but when you're near something else like one of the hunter missions it does point to that, and using the map to set waypoints does make for a good amount of user control over it. I haven't found it to be as intrusive at all, infiltrating bases and quietly stabbing people in the throat is amazing. I found myself getting too involved before and only playing with the bow - as a Rambo simulator (with tigers) (and sharks) it works surprisingly well.

Also got Far Cry 3. Excited.

Played some more Far Cry 3 despite my earlier whining. I don't mind the objective marker that much anymore. Unfortunately there are other problems that just make me sad. There are too many missed opportunities for awesomeness. Kind of reminds me of Skyrim. Both have beautiful worlds, but not much of interest going on in them. Far Cry 3 features 2 items that can be found in the world, chests and relics. Both are always trash, there are no exceptions. Relics do nothing and chests contain items that you sell for money. Unfortunately money is so easy to come by that finding a chest quickly becomes mundane. I really wish they'd skipped the crafting system and rather just spread out all the backpacks, wallets and kits all over the world and also included more epic items that could be found throughout the world. I mean, when I dive into an ancient ruin and battle a bunch of snakes, the last thing I want to find is a couple of trash items. Unlike Skyrim, Far Cry 3 fortunately has fun combat, which is why I'm sure that I'll finish the game. I'm just sad that there's this massive, beautiful world to explore, but no tangible rewards for exploring it.

I get what you mean about the chests, and the crafting system can be annoying (why can't I bank my extra money with the shop system? Why do I have to chase down a very rare tiger with a bow and get killed six times by its mates before I can carry more than $4000?) but I do enjoy exploration for its own sake. Climbing a tower, sliding down, paragliding across the ocean then diving out, creeping into a base and slitting throats/throwing knives/setting fire to people... I don't know, I have a blast each time regardless. It could be even better though,of course.

Yeah, exploration is fun. The pirates that patrol by car especially help create some really memorable moments. Whenever I'm on high ground and see them driving past beneath me I cook a grenade just to see if I can hit them. Good times. The small details in the environment are really cool as well, like coves, caves, waterfalls and so on. Really well designed.

I bought all these games last Steam summer sales - Towns, Rage, Far Cry 3, Mirror's Edge, Witcher 2, and I'm probably forgetting a couple. And I don't know where to begin. It's such a first world problem.

Just finished Beneath a Steel Sky... What a game. They definitely do not make them like this anymore. I realized during the ending credits that the guy who illustrated the game also drew Watchmen. Pretty cool.

I finally got around to playing / beating Braid. Wow, I was not expecting it to be so difficult. I had to look up the solution to two of the puzzles, but they were all brilliantly put together. And ***SPOILERS*** the end sequence where Tim and the princess escape together, only to discover that she was actually fleeing from him the entire time... wow. Heartbreaking. ***END SPOILERS* Gorgeous art and music as well. Going to go download the soundtrack now I think.

Need to get back to grips with Witcher 2, easy to pick up, hard to put down. Mirror's Edge I only played the demo of but found too hard, although the ideas are amazing, as are the free-running parts when you can get them right! Was turned off Rage by the poor reviews at the time, but will probably reconsider now, supposed to be a fairly solid shooter...

Cool how some of you still play stuff like Beneath The Steel Sky( respect ) and Braid ( I got it a year ago but still haven't played it yet).
Just recently caught some time and finished first Assassin's Creed ( very good although it gets slightly repetitive after some time ). I thought it was crap when it came out years ago as I expected Prince of Pesia/Hitman style game. Now that would be something.

I bought Braid last year too. Great game.

During this past GOG Winter Sale, I bought the Sierra adventure game bundle (all of the Quest games for $20).

Rage has an okayish score in metacritic, but most importantly I purchased it for five euro.

I started playing Mirror's Edge when slightly drunk and had a blast, but yesterday I spent the limited amount of time I had on BF3. So no progress whatsoever in transferring the recent purchases into play time :(

I bought it on sale for half price soon after it came out. I regret paying that much for it.
Anyway, moving on to Anarchy Reigns now, which is awesome so far. On a side note, who's going to be purchasing Aliens: Colonial Marines? Extremely excited for that game I am, oh yes indeed. :dio:

THQs assets were sold off to other companies. Ubisoft, Sega, Bethesda, were amongst some of the vultures who were circling the corpse.
