new Slayer seems to be taking form, getting my hopes up

Why? Do you just really enjoy being disappointed or what?

actually I figure like Maiden or Priest eventually I will like one of their newer releases (AMOLAD for Maiden and Nostradamus for Priest) if it doesn't work out that way meh won't be the first time a new release has dissapointed me

new Orphaned Land is getting me very excited, they have yet to disappoint and I wanna see how the new guitarist will affect the band

I thought Christ Illusion was pretty good, and I liked World Painted Blood more than most people.

I may not exactly plan my year around it, but I say bring on new Slayer. It's always worth a listen, if nothing more.

I've liked a couple songs on God Hates Us All, Christ Illusion and World Painted Blood (much as I had on the two albums prior to AMOLAD or on Angel Of Retribution) but the last Slayer album I really loved was Divine Intervention (yeah I bought it quite some time after it was released since I didn't even start listening to Slayer until 2005 but still)

God Hates Us All and Christ Illusion were decent, but World Painted Blood was worthless in my opinion.

I appreciated what they were going for.

It seems to me people give them so much shit for never doing anything different, but then they try to mix it up on WPB and people are like "wtf? this isn't Slayer"

I thought it was pretty cool to hear them do some shit they've never done. There was some interesting songs on there, and enough pure thrashers to keep it Slayerish. Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I approve of it. It was a decent album.

It's a classy thread, but I didn't leave many clues as to why I didn't like the album. Just thought it was boring and rather underwhelming, I guess. However, I did use the phrase 'drill-kill' in that thread...

I haven't heard it recently enough to remember if I agree with Wally's 80 / 100, but he seems to have felt the same way as me when it came out.

I don't mind WPB, it's a decent enough album, eighty I'd say is about right, a little better then average but not exactly special

I like the last 2 Slayer albums - can't stand GHUA though. WPD wasn't as strong as Christ Illusion though. The title track rocks though.

I miss The_Voice so much. That guy had good fuckin taste.

my other forum has that problem as well, some of the most knowledgeable people have just gone missing, though I have to say I don't miss the arguments revolving around Judas Priest that one person always seemed to spark

I would've loved to have been there - combine my love of history with one of my favourite metal bands.
