I think it's borderline - watched much of it with my sister and both loved it.
It's campy horror a la Army of Darkness. It's jokes and good fun, but seriously the material that it operates with is dense. There is a whole discourse on social work in that last season that is crazy insightful.
ive never watched buffy but you would compare it to army of darkness? obviously not subject matter but as far as the humor and that kind of thing? if this is true i may have to watch buffy.
I think in terms of the humor that Sam Raimi relies on in AoD, Joss Whedon might be the best in imitating that. Because we all know Raimi fails at striving for that humor these days, e.g., Campbell's cameos in Spiderman. I'll admit that Buffy's jokes rely very much on 90s teenage dynamics and so you may not enjoy it, but seriously the jokes are comparable. Somebody else interject in this discussion. I feel like I'm making a rather bold claim that I can't support except with emotions.

dont get insecure in your bold claim trapt. if you say its like that i believe you. and im not challenging your claim. you just interested me with your comparison is all. i dig raimi. i like whedon even though all ive watched from him is firefly but for that show alone i like him.

Most of Joss' material has awesome banter. Buffy does not escape this rule. I'm one of those who thought I wouldn't like Buffy but after seeing the whole series twice. Being a teen in the 90's, I don't understand why I have ignored this series for so long.

Stick with it through the first season. It gets way better.

Watched the firs two seasons of How Not To Live Your Life. It's some funny shit, I recommend it to anyone who likes British comedy shows.

Started the Sherlock miniseries. Good stuff, much better than that crap of the Mentalist.

The Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett was the best of them all. By far the best fitting character.

That's a goodie. The Jeremy Brett one was great, too. Interesting guy:

Quote:
Brett was obsessed with bringing more passion to the role of Holmes. He introduced Holmes' rather eccentric hand gestures and short violent laughter. He would hurl himself on the ground just to look for a footprint, "he would leap over the furniture or jump onto the parapet of a bridge with no regard for his personal safety."[15]

Holmes' obsessive and depressive personality fascinated and frightened Brett. In many ways Holmes' personality resembled the actor's own, with outbursts of passionate energy followed by periods of lethargy. It became difficult for him to let go of Holmes after work. He had always been told that the only way for an actor to stay sane was for him to leave his part behind at the end of the day, but Brett started dreaming about Holmes, and the dreams turned into nightmares.[16] Brett began to refer to Holmes as "You Know Who" or simply "HIM": "Watson describes You Know Who as a mind without a heart, which is hard to play. Hard to become. So what I have done is invent an inner life".[17] Brett invented an imaginary life of Holmes to fill the hollowness of Holmes' "missing heart", his empty emotional life. He imagined: "...what You Know Who's nanny looked like. She was covered in starch. I don't think he saw his mother until he was about eight years old..." etc.[17] While the other actors disappeared to the canteen for lunch, Brett would sit alone on the set reading the script, looking at every nuance,[18] reading Holmes in the weekends and on his holidays.

Manic depressive too, poor guy.

That's really interesting Zad, I'll look for that show later. Hope it isn't difficult to find 'cause it's a bit old.

Bit disappointed with the latest season of Misfits, which is just drawing to a close. Bit by-numbers this season, lacking standout moments. Still good, but not as good. By contrast, new Peep Show is as hilarious as ever already.

Yeah, seriously. The noir episode centered on Curtis was handled really well, but I wasn't super happy about it. Rudy has really developed into a great character and is seriously funny, but I just don't like the new people. And the one-off episodes are kinda uninteresting after the previous season's time travel and what not.
