Ed Cowan is getting veeeeeeeeeery close to the magical three figures, come on Eddy, hey that can be our new chant at the cricket lol

Well, there it is. Had to be a nervous lunch break for him, but a nice boundary shot to bring up his first test century! Great stuff. Guaranteed to avoid the follow-on now, I'd say.

Clarke's hit his stride now! Three boundaries off one over! He's lighting it up!

we've avoided disaster and turned the series on it's head, hope these two just bat out the rest of the test and really crush the saffers mentally then tear them apart in the next two test

If Watson can get over that calf in time for the second test, it's a different story. He's our most valuable player.

I love that we've hijacked this into "The Cricket Thread", however briefly!

Fuck!! Cowan run out, that was an utter bullshit call. Why didn't they challenge it??

EDIT: Oh, we did challenge it. Still sounds like bullshit to me!

it was sent to the third umpire and given out, just didn't get back in time, I think the fielder should actually have to be in control of the ball not just touch it to get a run out but thems the breaks

Yeah, that's why I said it seemed like bullshit. My brother sent me a text and the way he described it, it barely touched Steyn's finger.

Came across a treasure trove of cheap black/death shirts, metal posters, and horror movie posters for dirt cheap like 10-15 dollars per shirt. Time to go insane.

nice

enjoying the most astonishing batting performance, Australia from 3/40 to 4/453, Michael Clarke nearing a double century and Michael Hussey's simply glorious cover drive, as a fan of cricket it does not get any better then this

got another job offer. this time it's to start Inovcontacto, an international internship programme sponsored by the portuguese state. you get in, do a 1 week "campus" training thing, and then you're assigned to a partner company and a country. it's cool but it's impossible to know where you'll end up - i've seen people go to california, the ivory coast, new york and saudi arabia.

i'm surprised because i said a lot of stupid things during the selection process. in a group interview they asked each person to say why it would be cool to go to country X. i got Colombia, so i said i really wanted to see more of latin america after an amazing time in Mexico, that i had many friends who had been there and loved it, etc. (this is all true), and to finish i said, in the driest possible tone, that it would also allow me to save a fortune on my cocaine addiction. then during the 1 on 1 interview, she asked if i had a girlfriend and i said "no, i have resigned myself to the fact that i am going to die alone". and now this

Yeah, I would have thought the same thing.

But what confuses me that when someone plays under the banner of Great Britain instead of England or Scotland (like Andy Murray) they all love each other all of a sudden and everyone's from the same place.

Whenever Andy Murray loses, he's Scottish. Whenever he wins, he's British. Murray himself is Scottish nationalist (although his potential SNP membership is undisclosed), and he's been lambasted by the Daily Mail for "not being British enough". You can be damn sure that if an English tennis player were to do as well, he'd never be British.

Real sports don't have tea breaks...

Seriously, they're probably just looking for somebody with a personality and you showcased it. I got a scholarship through an interviewing process and I took it like a joke thinking I would get the big money and these people loved me having an attitude, shows you have leadership skills when you don't take people's shit, I guess.

real sports don't have tea breaks? it's tradition, has been since the games inception and always will be, doesn't take away from the legitimacy of the sport in any way, in fact it's a good thing, gives the people there (thousands of them) a chance to get more beer whilst play has stopped

I guess it's comparable to the seventh inning stretch...

in a test match (such as the one being talked about in depth when we sort of hijacked the thread) there are three "sessions" of about two hours each, halfway through each session is a short break for drinks, players don't leave the field for this drinks are brought to them, at the end of the first session is a break for lunch before the process repeats again except with a short break for tea (not actually sure exactly what the players do in the tea break but it is comparitvely shorter then the lunch break) and at the end of the final session the day's play is finished, this process is repeated for five days (if the test actually lasts that long, in most cases they are finished in four or sometimes even sooner)

shorter forms of the game don't have lunch or tea breaks and besides drinks the only extended stop in play is the change of innings, I could spend hours trying to explain the basic rules of the game but quite frankly I don't have hours to spare

If you knew the markup on these you would never pay more and would look harder to find someone not ripping you off.
