John McTiernan for the win.

The guy directed Die Hard, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Predator. That's a lifetime of good will built up right there.

Russian bad guys are perfectly inoffensive bad guys. Not Muslim, white, and easy for the masses who recall the Cold War or the latest Putin gaffe to despise. I notice more Russian bad guys these days than any other.
Yup. It's kind of messed up too because during the cold war almost all movies like this were about Russians. Russians were always the bad guy during the cold war. Its amazing how much the world has changed since the eighties. Now if you make a afghani or a Muslim from anywhere a bad guy or portray them in a less than stellar light the P.C. Police will fucking come out of the woodwork. I fucking hate the P.C. Police.

I like all Die Hard movies except 4.0. But yeah those three McTiernan movies are something special, I even like the 13th Warrior with Banderas ( criminally underrated flick ), not to mention the Red October with Connery. McTiernan ruled.

Bought the Prometheus Collector's Edition which includes around 7.5 hours of bonus features, including a 3+ hour making-of documentary. Can't wait to delve into this bad boy.

He's an actor. Mainly stage, but has had small parts in a few films, notably this playing one of the vikings.

Mostly little-known English stuff. But he was in the first Harry Potter film...

Saw Sinister last night. It's rare that such a disturbing horror film (made for $3 million with hardly any gore no less) makes it into the wide-release category, but wow, what a refreshing change from the typical trash put out during the Halloween season. The first shot alone is quite fucked up, and the soundtrack had me on edge even during the calmest scenes. Horror fans should definitely check it out.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Good not great. It felt a bit too academic at times, if that makes sense. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke are two fantastic actors though.

Wanted to see that but the girlfriend vetoed it, might have to go and see it alone, looks great!

Went to see On The Road with a friend last night - not having read the book probably means I missed a lot but it was very good, despite the presence of her out of Twilight. Despite the plot being basically driving and shagging, there was a lot of subtle stuff about feminism (Trapt will seriously love this film) and the basic filmcraft was excellent.

Did not realize they made a film of that. Fun fact: I hated that book. I have read it twice and both times it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I read it in conjunction with Fear and Loathing and Naked Lunch, the former being fun and druggy while the latter is trippy and druggy. But at the end of the day, barring the F&L rape scene, no one is really hurt by these people's shenanigans. On the Road basically consists of 200 pages of guys shacking up with women, knocking them up and leaving and I found that to be despicable. As someone who takes seriously the heteronormative conception of a family and raising your damn kids, I just wanted to throttle those guys throughout that book. The fact that feminism seeps into the film seems odd and probably a distortion to mask what I hated about the book. Hmmm...
