Cabin in the Woods

I'm no video game/movie critic like some people here are, but this is still pretty good. My roommate actually still jumps/cringes at movies like this and he use to be in the army. Pussy.

I loved The Cabin in the Woods, one of my favorite movies of 2011. It's a fun spin on the generic, cliché horror movie. I found it so damn funny in a delightful, black comedy sort of way. It's almost to monster movies what Scream was to slasher movies.

None of my friends liked it though so what the fuck do I know.

I loved it as well for the same reason you did. It's just over the top fun. How can you not love the absolute mayhem with all the fantastical creatures during the last part of the movie?

I have to say, Cabin in the Woods made me laugh harder than any mainstream comedy to come out within the past few years. It wasn't very scary, but it was a ton of fun and completely awesome. Plus, I'm amazed that the concept of Lovecraft-esque Elder Gods made it into a mainstream Hollywood movie.

Charlie Kaufman would start talking about giving a speech within 5 minutes of the start of his speech.

Taken 2. Not as good as the first. The cinematography wasn't as good, which really took away from the fight scenes, which weren't nearly as abundant as I remember being in the first film.

ah, what a shame. then again Liam Neeson is like 60 anyway so this could be pushing it. still worth watching?

NINJA ASSASSIN is such a cool movie, gloriously and cartoonishly violent, people getting chopped in half, chopped diagonally, chopped off at the jaw, at the arm, at the knee. fucking awesome. and omfg, the wachowski brothers are now the wachowski siblings? and the chick from the movie is the new bond girl lol.

I don't think it is honestly. Maybe it was the cheap movie theater that I was at, but the one good fight scene was like choppy insofar as it looked like stills were pushed together making it difficult to discern what was going on. Yet that was the only part of the movie that did that so I assumed it was the actual film. There is a lower body count which makes it seem like its over before it even got started.

And one of the Wachowskis had a sex change, no?

they probably use shaky camera syndrome and other "techniques" to make Liam Neeson look like a better fighter than he is.

and yeah, one of them got a sex change, hence the "siblings" instead of "brothers".

Both Taken movies are not bad. But, the Taken 2 premise is just too retarded, are we to believe that the almost exact thing is happening to the same family all over again. Another nail in an already clinically dead Hollywood idea brain. What are we? Sheep ?

Actually, I was convinced that a gang, a family in particular, would seek out the guy who killed their son in order to enact retribution.

Yeah, I kind of agree with Trapt. It's not that ridiculous considering the circumstances - I mean he pissed off some seriously dodgy people.

Maybe as an action movie fan, I'm just used to it. I mean, how much shit has gone down in John McLane's life? Every time there's a terrorist attack in America, it's somehow directly related to John McLane's life. He's ALWAYS right there in the middle of it when the shit hits the fan. If I can sit through four Die Hard movies (and I have.....many times) and just enjoy it for the pop corn shlock it is, I can certainly sit through Taken 2.

Yeah, that's actually where I'll diverge and say the only good Die Hard is the first one., because I can't stand that level of being contrived. As Bar said, shady people will do shady things if you piss 'em off. And they might also think that Liam Neeson had the drop on them the first time around and hence will be ready this time. Like, yeah, if my son was electrocuted for days before death, I would try to fuck a dude up too.

I'm a huge fan of cinema, across a wide range of genres. What this means is that while many of my favourite movies of all time are arthouse films, I can just as easily enjoy the most contrived bullshit ever as long as it's good fun, and the Die Hard sequels certainly are that.

What!!!! :omfg: The only good diehard is the first? Ahhh man. All the diehards are great. John MacLaine is the man. He went threw the whole first movie without shoes!!! No shoes!!! That's insane. then the Twinkie eating cop comes back for some phone assistance to John in the second one. Then my favorite one is the third. Hahaha great movie. Samuel l Jackson is a funny mofo. John has to put on a sign in Harlem that says I HATE NI**ERS. and that's in like the first fifteen minutes. Great movie. Not for the racism. Just great. The fourth wasn't bad but it's on the same line as the second for me. The first and third are where it's at. Bruce Willis should be a statue in new York just like we have a rocky statue in Philly.

Sorry Trapt. :D I like die hard. :D

Snake, I'm with you man.

They just released the trailer for the new one A Good Day to Die Hard.

Haven't watched it yet. After the fourth one, I'm not expecting much but I'm gonna watch it at the cinemas anyway. John McClane does that to me.

Saw the trailer Friday and it doesn't really show much except McClane going through some glass. Surprise! But there was a salacious brunette zipping off some coveralls which I do remember.

The guy who directed it has only made some pretty average films like Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix and Max Payne, so there's nothing in his past work that gives me too much hope.

The story line is something about McClane and his grown up son fighting some terrorists in Russia or some shit. Again, doesn't sound too special. But I can be a very simple man sometimes. As long as McClane shoots a whole bunch of people and says "yippee kay yay motherfucker" I'll buy a ticket.

Russian bad guys are perfectly inoffensive bad guys. Not Muslim, white, and easy for the masses who recall the Cold War or the latest Putin gaffe to despise. I notice more Russian bad guys these days than any other.

I don't understand how you can like the first Die Hard but not the third one. With a Vengeance is in my opinion one of the greatest action films ever made.
